Using a QR code on an invite, good or bad plan?

Cavan, on August 16, 2011 at 8:22 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 19

My FSIL is helping me DIY my invitations. She is a graphic artist and works in a printing shop so she graciously offered to help us design and print them. She suggested putting a QR code on the invite. I think it's a neat idea to use it to direct guests to our website but am also worried that we're taking it too far in terms of making the invitations too casual. My plan is for a semi-formal to formal wedding. My FH is super techie and I think a lot of people would expect something like this from him and he thinks it would be easy and fun to do but I'm on the fence. We are incorporating other tech-like stuff into the wedding so it wouldn't look out of place but it is the guests first look at our wedding.

Any thoughts?

I really like this idea - your wedding invites will be technically savvy ;o)

I don't think it would make the invites too casusal - where were you planning on putting the code?

The plan is to put the code on an enclosure, not the actual invitation. Most likely on the card that has the reception info.

I think it's a cool idea! I don't think it will make the invites too casual either.

We will still include the usual info - hotel, directions, reception info, so it's really just for fun. And to get people to our website! I did consider that not all people have a smart phone, heck I don't even have one, and that many of our guests are elderly and may not be computer-savvy.

I love the idea! I think if you have the info on there for those that can't use the code it's awesome! Go for it!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea. I would put the code in an inconspicuous place if the wedding is semi formal to formal... perhaps on the back (even though some people might not turn it over). But I love the idea.

If it is with/on the enclosure card, go for it... if it was On the actual invite I would say no.

I really like this idea on a save the date or as an eclosure. Maybe on the same enclosure you can add your website for those that don't have a smart phone?

    Very cool idea!

I blurred out my QR code but this is just to give you an idea... mine is right in the center (on the back) of our STD

Thank you everyone for your thoughts! I am excited about it now.

@Michelle - Thanks for showing me your STD, I think it looks great and the QR code isn't too big to take over the whole card. It reaffirms my decision to go ahead and do it.

I think it's a fabulous idea! As long as the web address is also listed for technologically challenged guests (I had alot of those lol)
