The cats PEED on my wedding dress!

Starlight, on February 16, 2014 at 1:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

I got a call recently from my mom back in Washington state. She was super stressed out. She told me that apparently while me and my other half were moving out of the house, the cats got stressed out, and decided to urinate on my wedding dress, which was hanging on the back of a door.

Luckily, it was in a garment bag and only 2 little tiny spots actually got on the dress and she said she got them out, but seriously cats? couldn't you have found anything else to take revenge on?

This is why I refuse to own cats or allow them in my rental house. They pee everywhere for any stupid reason and it's impossible to get the smell out if it gets to a certain level. Not worth it. Sorry cat lovers.

Oh my gosh! I would be so mad I probably would have disowned the cats.

Cats don't pee for revenge, they do so when there's a problem or mark territory. Your moving probably made them feel unstable or think something was going trying to steal their territory (you,) so they marked something that was a HUGE target that smelled like you.

I've had cats since I was born, and the only time I ever remember them not using the litter box is when one got a urinary tract infection once. Antibiotics fixed that quickly.

ARGH! I just picked up my dress yesterday and hung it on the back of a door. Then I had a vision of the fake Jinxy in Meet the Fockers going crazy on the wedding dress. LOL. Glad it all seems to be ok.

I just shreeked when I heard that!

thank god your mom found it in time and got the stains out! I've got a bird that can make her share of messes as well. I've had dreams about that, particularly dreams of her getting her hands on my fancy crystals to sew on my gown and carrying them back to her cage. Birds love shinny pretty things! :/

I've been a cat owner for over 30 years. I've only had one cat ever pee. My boy cat had a UTI and peed on the couch, and marked the toilet after my visiting brother missed one night. The cat I have now has been moved 8 times and has never peed anywhere but the box.

I'd definitely take it to be professionally cleaned. Enzymes are the only thing that will remove all the pee. I hope the rest of your move was a success and your cats have calmed down.

I feel your pain! We got back from our HM to find out that our male cat had peed on our couch several times. The next day he peed in an open suitcase that I was unpacking and started "marking" the laundry. I'd also get the cat checked out though, in our case he had urinary crystals and had started to associate pain when peeing with the litterbox, so he started peeing in other places. I was pissed at him (we had to get rid of the suitcase and the couch, buy a new couch, redo 4 loads of laundry and then had almost $2k in vet bills within 2 weeks of coming home from our HM).

I love my mom's cats. I understand that they were stressed out by the move. My mom bought a new garment bag and assured me that she and several people can't smell anything at all on the dress, so I'm going to trust that it is all ok. Plus she moved the dress out of the range of the cats being able to urinate on it again.

I think she should still take it and get it cleaned...it may not smell now but being stored in that bag, the whole thing could wind up stinking...that's just me though

My older one used the floor sometimes... In his defense he's 18 and I think he can't make it sometimes. He uses the litter box but the occasional floor accident happens. We leave him in the bedroom with the door closed (he sleeps in my closet, the litterbox and food are in my bathroom, my master bed/area is honestly like a quarter of the house, my closet is the size of a small bedroom) so when I'm gone he's in there but when I'm home he comes out to lay on the couch with me. The other cats try to play with him so he follows me for protection anyways. Lol.

I second having it cleaned. Cat pee is sneaky, and it may seem to be gone, only to have the smell/stain resurface later due to the ammonia.

    I would be so pissed!!

Take the dress to be cleaned, the last thing you need is for your dress to be smelling like pee on your wedding day, then put it in your closet.
