Target Registry....yay or nay?

Married, on February 12, 2013 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

I haven't heard great things about Target's wedding registry, but it's my favorite store. We registered for most things at BBB and Sur La Table, but there are some small decorative things we like at Target but I've heard their registry can be a pain to deal with. Anyone have any advice either way for Target's registry?

I registered at Target. It was easy to sign up and navigate and select stuff (online that is) As for the buyers end, I don't know. I peeked at my registry the day before my shower and only 2 things were purchased off it. But at my shower I got almost everything that I registered for. So I don't know if there was a glitch in the system or if people just didn't bother mentioning the registry when they checked out. I never asked. lol

I love Target, however when we went to register there I couldn't pick out ANYTHING I wanted. It just wasn't suited for our registry, but then I'm glad I didn't because of horror stories with their registry. So maybe check it out first and see if you like it

Yeah, I also decided against Target due to many of the issues I heard about. But if you just plan to have a small number of items that only they have, I think it'd be worth the risk. I wouldn't do a large registry, and I would keep an eye on it to make sure things were still in stock, delete items if you get them at a shower but they still show up, that kind of thing.

Thanks for the advice! BBB has been my favorite so far, I'd just as soon register for everything there. There are a few items that are specific to Target that we'd like to register for so I think we'll just keep that one small.

Target is one of 3 registries...some problems...but it hasn't been awful.

I have had no problems with Target. We went in store and we had a small hiccup with the first gun (battery died) but they quickly gave us a replacement and it was fine. We went online and added more or less and that was no problem. I have never heard of problems with them til WW. Most of my friends register there for their weddings/baby showers and no problems mentioned. I sneaked a peek yesterday and things were listed as bought so it seems that it being updated but like most stores, there are often delays in updating the registry online. We also registered at BBB and honeyfund.

I had a pretty big issue with my Target registry and ended up shutting it down. It wasn't my store (I never have a problem there), it was the "help" customer service line. Long story short, they complerely screwed up and shipped my package to the wrong address even after I called three times to be sure they had the right one (everytime I got on my online part, it had the wrong address) and sure enough they shipped it to the wrong house. Luckily the people returned the $100 product that my great-aunt bought for me. But it took them about 4 weeks to process her return and would only give her store credit even though she used her visa. It was a nightmare! The people at their call center were not helpful at all and beyond rude.

When I used them for my baby shower, even when the guests took the paper up to the register and the cashier scanned it, it wouldn't register the items bought. So it was a bit embarrassing when I had multiples of gifts at the shower.

I wouldn't register there for a few items, you'll probably get some cash (or cash from BBB returns!) and can go get what you want there Smiley smile I'm a big fan of keeping limited registries and keeping it simple!

I used to work at Target. Granted it was like 9 years ago, but there were always issues with people's registries. After hearing from other posters - doesn't seem like much has changed.

I registered at Macy's, BBB and Target and received gifts from each of those registries. I was completely satisfied with them. It was easy for my guests to order from it and items arrived quickly and in good condition. I especially love my poppy red cannister set and use it a lot so is holding up well.

My sister used Target and had no issues at all. I plan on registering there as well. My only issue with my sisters registry is that she had 26 PAGES....took FOREVER to print out....

We have Bloomingdales, Nordstroms, etc. here and I love and shop at those stores very often, but when I can find everything I want at stores like BBB and Target where everyone can shop no matter their locale, that's what I decided to go with.

Our china we registered for is lovely and I found at BBB I was able to register for both my big ticket items (china, pots & pans, etc.), as well as a lot less expensive things. I'm only 23, and many of my friends are just out of college. Thus, registering somewhere like Bloomingdales would probably result in a lot of 'unfulfilled' items.

I hadn't heard any problems with Target about actually registering, it was more on the buying end. I'm seeing that first hand now as a friend of mine registered there and my mom is having one hell of a time getting her gift from there.

I'm going to go with what @RayRay said; finish up our registries at BBB and Sur La Table and then use any money we get to get the few things from Target that we'd like Smiley smile

I'm worried about Target because we used giftcards from a shower and bought some stuff off our own registry and had the woman scan the registry...a few days later, I manually marked the items as bought because they were still showing not bought. I really need the Target registry (Target is everywhere...plus, we have so many guests and only so many things we need/want)...I've had problems with Williams Sonoma and returns...it's like, the whole thing is kind of a pain.

We registerd at Target and pennys. The only problem I had at Target is that I went throught 3 count them 3 guns because the battery kept dying. I was only there for an hour and registered for approx. 20 things so it wasn't me going crazy lol. Hoping for the best with people buying from it and that it is problem free. My shower isn't until August so I will worry about that then Smiley smile

I haven't heard of anyone I know having issues with Target's registry. We didn't register there, I just wasn't really a target shopper at that time (I am now though, love it!). DHs aunt was actually upset (as in not jokingly upset, legitimately heatedly upset/angry with me) at my shower that I didn't register at Target, because "it was a pain" to find my items at Walmart because they don't tell you on the print out which aisle its in the way they do at target.
