Spray/air brush tan FAILURE

J&R, on August 13, 2011 at 10:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

So, I did it. I got an airbrush tan (I think - it was sprayed on me but by a person, not a machine). The girl who did it was relatively pale and had a nice, light, natural looking tan. That's what I wanted.

Instead, I am currently researching how to get this Oompa Loompa look OFF.

That was my first and last faux tan. I will now embrace my paleness.

Oh no!! Get a coarse loofa and scrub scrub scrub! I got a spray tan that looked nice, but every time I exercised in a white sports bra, I ended up with an orange sports bra. I didn't want an orange wedding dress too, so I nixed the idea. I'm sorry it didn't work for you either...but at least you didn't try right before your wedding!

I hated the hand done one... I did a machine (at Boca Tanning) and it was awesome!

I tried the lotions on my own about two weeks before my wedding and had some major streak issues! Not to mention orange hands!

I think Rosie has it right - scrub a lot! I heard vinegar or baking soda help, but that's just internet knowledge so I'm not sure how reliable it is...I put on a lot of lotion and that seemed to help remove it.

    Good luck!

    Dear Oompa Loompa,

Because of the same experience I am not venturing past gradual self-tanners. But wash-scrub-hydrate routine for a day or two should solve the problem.

In meantime, I am going to continue enjoying your daily dose of humor and wisdom.

    Best,

    Fellow Oompa Loompa

LOL, thank you very much Sanya! I've never done this before, and will never do it again! I actually crack up whenever I see someone do a double-take. It's deserved.

On top of that, the products I use daily on my face contain exfoliants, so my face is about 10 shades lighter than everywhere else. I'm sort of relieved that it's raining here now and I have an excuse to go back to bed (vs. out into the world) for a while.

    Ah, well.

Magic Eraser! I used to work at a tanning salon and it was a trick amoung the employees to not by the items we had for sale to take the remaining part of your spray off with a magic eraser after it started to come off. Also you might want to use a good exfoliator twice a day. Good Luck!

I forgot but everyday lotions contain products that will "eat" the solution off your skin. So you might want to lotion up after all that exfoliating!

Does anyone have a good experience with spray tan? I was going to do this too. Maybe just 5 sessions at the tanning bed to even out chest lines for my strapless gown. That's the main issue for me.

I have no advice to give, but appreciate the chuckle. I say embrace it and wear a green jumpsuit today.

Like I said before I used to work at a tanning salon whereas I sprayed alot and it worked well for me whether I was tan or not. Everyone's skin does not react the same way to it. I also spray in a Versa booth if you can find someone in your area that has one. I would recommend a test run a few weeks before to make sure it works well for you. Also, if you can find a place that sprays different shades (light, medium, dark.....clear, tinted) go with the clear! It doesn't show up right off so you have time to adjust also I would say clear medium is like a base tan and clear dark is like look at me I have a tan! and I can not stress enough to exfoliate before you go !

Amy W., LMAO. Laugh away, I'm stuck with this for a few days!

Kasey, you are 100% right, do a test run. Apparently whatever product they use reacts with the amino acids in your skin, and apparently my amino acids react ORANGe

The only i will ever do is HD mystic tan. its individual bottles that go into a machine. the color is shook when it put on.. with other hand held or machines the color sinks to the bottle leaving orange at the top! I woould reccomend just do a full body srub and sit in a hot tub. it will go away in like one day of that.

Aw I'm trying not to laugh, I would be annoyed as heck!! buuuuut on the other hand I've got that image in my head from "Bridal Wars" when Kate Hudson's character screws up Anne Hathaway's character tan! hehehhehe...

When is your wedding J&R S.? Hopefully you've got pletny of time to get it off.. lots and lots of scrubibing/exfoliating is what I recommend, just be aware that you might have spots on your skin since it probably wouldn't come off evenly..

Natural Glow worked REALLY well for me, gave me a tint rather than a shade and I loved it! Would highliy recommend it and you start to see results within a week or so.

Is Natual Glow a spray tan or a self tanner?

Natural Glow I think is the Jergens one that builds up layer by layer.

I just had the same exact experience with spray tanners. And I had it hand done. The ladies at my laser hair removal place gave me another name. Apparently they shouldn't use the same formula for everyone, which is what the place that I went to used. So I'm gonna give it another go. Will let you know. Otherwise, I may invest in a few tanning bed sessions.... I know I know it's bad for ya, but hey it's better than lookin' like an Oompa Loompa or a pale white ghost on the beach Smiley smile

Oh, I've got plenty of time to get rid of it. This was a test run.

Maybe it's because I'm in the latter 1/2 of my 30s, but I would go pale 1000 years before I'd get in a tanning bed. When you get ti my age, if you use those things, you will look like an old spotted leather shoe. Not pretty...
