Soo.... My hair sucks... what to do...

kelseyj, on April 28, 2010 at 8:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

So I have really thin, well i guess fine, hair that doesn't like to stay curled... I've looked at tons of hair pictures and they all seem to be down and curled or up and curled! I rarely see ones for people who have straight hair... ugh... does anyone have any suggestions??? I've got a hair trial on sat and I'm kinda stressed... I really want to wear it loosely back at the base of my head either centered of off to the side... and I have bangs that i'd like to keep out... I just don't know what to make the "bun" (we'll just call it that) look like... or just the back of it i guess... I'm thinking about wearing a feather thing in it like toward the back or maybe one of those ribbon head bands... all your help is appreciated!!!!!

I have the same issue - trust me they will the spray the hell out if your hair, mine never stats curled unless I get it done. I'm keeping my bangs, wearing it up at the sides - sort of like this only more curls. Bobby pins and hairspray are your friend!

I have a similar problem. My hair is very fine and very thin so to me, it always looks the same...and not how I'd like it to like. I think I will be wearing clip-in extensions to add body and more curl. I've always wanted to wear my hair down and in curls. We'll see though...

No matter how fine ur hair is...if u curl it w/ a flat iron, it WILL curl and STAY curled. those are the BEST curls...the curling irons suck Smiley smile

Ask your stylist if you can go with a really sleek style where you won't need any curled ends. I'm sure she's styled all sorts of hair types and could give you advice. Something like this doesnt need any curls.

I have the same problem! My hair is SUPER fine, and though I have a lot of it, it doesn't seem to want to do anything but lay flat....except the sides, they like to do this wavy thing. Grr! I spend a lot of time on my hair to make it look how I want it to look and it never lasts. My trial proved to me that my hair didn't hold curl at all, but I am not going with her anywaybe cause she lacked hair skills. She gave me some tips, though! Don't condition your hair, and wash it the night before unless it's super oily in which case wash it that day. Lots of hairspray and pins and you should be good. Lets cross our fingers for our poor, fine hair! Smiley smile

I have the same problem, my curls normally dont stay. Jessica is right, if you use a straightening iron to curl your hair they will stay... it's using the same concept as straightening a ribbon with scissors but the curl does look different then with a curling iron. I would LOVE to have loose waves that you see all the celebs wearing so I'm going to get extensions to add volume and that hair WILL hold curls lol. Good Luck, if you find a miracle let us straight hair girls know!

This may sound a little out there but I would go and have some natural curly hair extentions added on for that day to add more volume and thickness to your hair and have the stylist do the style you want.

@ Candice, my hair was similar. Here is a pic. Also, my friend has very thin/fine hair and she had extensions put in that could be curled, and it made her hair look fuller/thicker. She wanted her hair down.

Thanks ladies!!! Hair extensions freak me out so I won't do that and I don't want it down cuz I hate it down... I look much better with it up... But I love that pick above!!!

Have your stylist blow your hair out. My hair is getting fine but when I blow my hair out it's super soft, full of volume and looks really thick. And it straightens on it's own from using the blow dryer. Also, buy a thickening spray. The one that was suggested to me was by Bumble & Bumble, but I use Beyond the Zone (can be found at most beauty supply stores and much cheaper) and it does the trick.

If you want to keep it down for the most part you can use sponge curlers, after you wash your hair the night before put it up in sponge rollers, when it dries it will stay curled. It's kinda like when you braid your hair when its wet and when you take it out it's all wavy and crimpy. My hair is very fine and thin and that is the only way I can ever get it to curl no matter the amount of hairspray I use.

Well my SIL did this thing for her wedding where she got those clip in extension and used them in her bun for a fuller effect in the bun.. her stylist wrapped her own hair around the bun of fake hair and it never looked remotely fake!

here she is Smiley smile (I took the photos so theres no credit needed to be given!)

annd sorry but my brother couldn't stop crying even after the ceremony!

Your hair will tend to revert back to the state in which it was dried. My hair is baby fine, but I have a lot of it, so it's about medium / average thickness. I currently have a body wave in my hair, but before, I used sponge rollers and slept in them. I'd shower at night, scrunch in some curl product (I like to use a pomade - currently using Garnier Beach Waves or something like that - I think it gives a softer look than gel or mousse), let my hair air dry a bit, then roll it up and go to sleep. They loosen a bit during the day due to the weight of my hair, but stay curly!

-If you are blow drying your hair, while your hair is still warm, wrap it around your fingers and clip it up with bobby pins or flat clips like what stylists use (Sally's). Let it cool, and you'll have loose, bouncy waves. Youtube pin curls.

What kind of extensions is everyone using? The clip-ins or just the weft?

Beautiful pictures; Jenni Lynn - LOVE your hair! Leave it to hair stylist to straighten and curl your hair. Hartshead is right: bobby pins and hair spray are your best friends. Also, don't be afraid of "clip-on" extensions. They work wonders and add volume! As to the "feather thing" to decorate your hair, you'll find what you are looking for at: http://forprincessbride.com/store/page14.html

    Good luck!
