Tacky, really? I just think your friend doesn't realize how gorgeous silk flowers are nowadays. I used them and people had nothing but great comments about how they looked. I had some real orchids to pass out to the ladies and use in my floating candle centerpieces but a lot of people thought my silks were real.

I saw the title of this post and my first thought was, "Uh, have you seen Linda's work?" So glad she posted her gorgeous work. Tell your friend it's tacky to tell people they're tacky.

Linda's right, silk flowers and real touch flowers have come a long way and can look fantastic if done right.

Your friend is tacky. If you had asked her opinion a month ago, she could have expressed it (and you could have done whatever you wanted). Knowing you have no time to change anything (even if you wanted to), why would she say something like that now?

Many people think the bouquets I make are real. So not sure which planet your friend is on but clearly she has not seen the silks that are out now.

You could always tell her she can pay and do the work.

When it is time for her wedding she better have live oops dead flowers. Dead because the only flower that grows after it is cut is a tulip.

Uhh, I agree with Nancy. That was kinda rude of her to say that. But Tacky??? NOPE NOT at all. If they are done correctly (See Linda's Flowers above) They look beautiful and most of the time ppl don't even know they are fake. I used silk flowers and real flowers. And nobody knew they were silk. In the pic below. The arch of flowers on the top railing is all silk. Smiley smile So I say go for it.

First of all, I think it was REALLY rude of your friend to come right out and say your decorations are tacky. I mean, maybe telling someone that when they are in the early stages of planning and you say "What do you think of this?" and they say "Nah, I think that's tacky"... But when it's already said and done?? WOW.

That said, I don't think silk flowers are tacky at all. Of course they CAN be if you get some really crappy ones and dont do it "right", but they can be gorgeous, money saving, and really... why spend SO much on real flowers that you're going to throw in the trash the next day?

I am making all of our bouquets/bouts/corsages out of silk and real touch flowers and you honestly can't really even tell they're fake- some of them you can't even tell they're fake even if you're inspecting them closely!!

Real flowers were the first thing I cut out of my budget because I feel they are a complete waste of money.

Not at all if done correctly. As long as you're not using Dollar Store flowers which can look really cheap and dull, you should be just fine. Heck some of the silk flowers cost more than real.

    Well said Linda!

Silks have come a long way! Everything at our wedding wasade with real touch. I am allergic and frankly we wanted to put our money elsewhere that was more important to our wedding weekend: food, booze and favors/welcome bags for our guests.

For Cate's Secret Garden themed wedding, we bought these pommanders from an Etsy seller. As you can see, they were placed with real plants. I received so many complements and questions as to who the florist was. The questions came from the ex's family who used to own a local chain of flower shops.

Sadly, the photographer did not get any pro pics of them, but I have these.

Tell your friend to stuff it!

Tacky is a matter of opinion, except when someone is tacky enough to criticize others' wedding decisions--then it's a fact!

As long as they are a good quality and done well - they can be just as (if not more) beautiful than the real thing! I am making pomanders to hang from the ceiling of our reception venue with silk peonies. Each about 12" across. It would have cost a FORTUNE to have these done by a florist. When I took a sample one it to my florist for bouquet color inspiration, he thought they were great too!

Long gone are the days when all fake flowers looked like those tacky funeral wreaths you used to get at Wal-Mart.

Actually, I was just in my friend's wedding recently and she had all real flowers...... And I think they would have looked SO MUCH BETTER if they were silk. They were starting to wilt by the time we were done with the ceremony!

And while I've seen silks that aren't my taste, I wouldn't describe them as "tacky".
