Derrick and I met 3 years ago on March 3, 2009, I was on my way home from Atlanta and I was speeding down 75 S trying to get to work on time. Needless to say I got pulled over by the police and I went to jail for speeding! (Can you believe that?) Little did I know it would turn out to be the day that I would meet my future husband. He was the first person I saw when the doors opened even though the room was full of people. I stayed for 5-6 hrs that day until my sister had a chance to bail me out. During that time Derrick and I found out we lived about 5 minutes from each other, so I slipped him my number and told him I would wait for his call. I waited a few days, convinvced he wouldn't or that he had forgotten about me when my phone rang and a blocked number showed up, it was him! After a few weeks of getting to know each other on the phone we had our first kiss and the rest....history.   The Proposal... Derrick and I went to Savannah, GA for our anniversary and Valentines Day. The day we got there, we went to the Lady and Sons for dinner and there Derrick gave me a promise ring stating that the promise was that he would replace it with an engagement ring. Though I wanted an engagement ring I was thrilled with the promise ring! Lol!! I called and texted my parents and grandma and told them my news, I was so excited and loved my ring so much! The next day we went to the mall and Derrick asked for my ring so he could get it cleaned for dinner that night. (We were going to Ruth's Chris), thinking nothing of it, I handed it over and told him I was going to get my makeup done. We kissed and parted ways and I could see him looking around the store, but that wasn't unusual and I thought he was just waiting on my ring to be finished. When my makeup was done I met him outside of the store and we went back to our hotel to finish getting ready for dinner. I asked where my ring was and he told me the jewelery store was backed up and that we had to pick it up the next day before leaving. I said ok and we went on to dinner. While we were eating our salads, we were discussing the meaning of the promise ring, and I told Derrick that I would wait until we were both ready to get my ring. Well Derrick starts sliding out his chair and says "Well I think I'm ready" He got down on one knee in the middle of the restaurant and told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. I think I stared at him smiling ear to ear for about 5 seconds before I said yes! We kissed and then the applause started! The manager gave us free champagne and dessert and we got well wishes from complete strangers the rest of our meal! This was a night neither one of us will soon forget.
