Sigh. Music. Why must you hate me? Okay ladies- what music are you using, and how did you pick it?!?!?

Shellie, on July 6, 2012 at 9:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I just can't seam to find anything I love. For any part of the day. The only one that I kind of sort of think is a for sure is using Invincible by Muse as our recessional song.

First I was thinking something from Cirque because really all their music is amazing, but the one I like is more solemn then happy. Then maybe "When you wish upon a star" but I can't find any I like. So I was thinking Deerpath Triptych, but itunes doesn't have it. Sigh. And that is just the song for me to walk to. I still need one for the BM's, and then first dance and parent dance songs!

How did you pick all your music? Where did you get it from? And most importantly- SHARE! Links would be extra awesome ;D

Processional (bridal party and for you)

Parent dances

What are you doing?

If you can't find what you want on Itunes, check out beatport or soulseek. I think that's where H finds a lot of his music. I think both have great remixed versions of many familiar songs, not always electronic.

As far as ceremony music, we had a very traditional church ceremony so we went with all hymns and high church classical pieces. My dad's a pastor so that part was pretty easy. Smiley smile

Dances were a little more difficult to choose, but I knew I wanted classic, nothing trendy. We planned to use the Fred Astaire version of "Heaven/Dancing Cheek to Cheek" for our first dance but then I was in Starbucks of all things and heard "A Kiss to Build a Dream On" and that was it.

If there's a song or genre you kinda like but you haven't found "the" song yet you could always build a pandora station around it for more ideas.

Shellie, my dear date twin we are in the same boat! I have no idea what I'm doing for the ceremony music, and for some reason my pastor keeps telling me that it'll take three minutes per BM to go down (I have 4 BMs, 1FG&1RB and a MOH going down) that's freaking me out becuase I DO NOT want it to take that long!! That's almost 20 MINUTES!! Anyway, they're gonna have max 5 to go down, I think he's exaggerating so we'll have to make it work.

For my entrance I really wanted to use this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w94_eIpRUro

It's I dare you to move done by the Vitamin String Quartet which I LOVE but FH does not :-/

So I have no idea. We do have our first dance and the mother/song dance since those are the only special dances we're doing at the reception, the ceremony is what's killing me!

I had ideas of what I wanted, but I browsed under the WW songs tab and found more I liked. I was able to listen to some on youtube and the rest my FH got for me on itunes. Our DJ has an enormous selection on his site, so we found stuff on there too.

My girls are walking to Canon in D.

I am walking to Jonathon Cain's Bridal March.

My FH and I are recessing to Ode to Joy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wod-MudLNPA

Our first dance is A Kiss to Build a Dream On by Louis Armstrong

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDgncPD0bew

We aren't doing parent dances, but an anniversary dance to Unforgettable by Nat King Cole

    Good luck!

I'm letting my lovely girls who are playing my ceremony pick it all for me. I trust them and told them that I don't want regular wedding music. I think our recessional is a march from Aida (the opera, not the musical)?

When I was looking for music to make a playlist for the party, I simply googled "wedding music" and found a ton of stuff that way.

I found a great site, which I now can't find (of course), that had little clips of all the songs you could listen to... Wish I could send it your way!

My bridesmaids are walking down to the first part of "marry me" by train, the instrumental version... its mainly just a guitar solo with cello background and I'm walking down to the second half which noticeably adds more instruments like a piano, and a pan flute I think. Its amazing! and once we say the i do's and are pronounced husband and wife they're going to start playing start playing "we are man and wife" by michelle featherstone. Its so beautiful!

Some other songs I'm going to have playing before the ceremony and during the reception are::

    - a dream is a wish your heart makes, by michael bolton

    - God gave me you, by blake shelton

    - Love never fails, by brandon heath

    - the way you look tonight, by michael buble

    - Tangled up in you, by staind

Well, I'm still debating what song FH/Groomsmen/Bridesmaids will be walking into...

    It's either:

1,2,3,4 by Plain White T's or

And I Love Her by The Beatles

    My song:

The Book of Love by Peter Gabriel

    Recessional:

When I'm 64 by The Beatles

    First Dance:

    Stolen by Dashboard Confessional

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAnBIGiHM_0

The Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dance... I'm letting them decide if they want to do it, and if they do, they will choose.

I also plan on doing a Mother/Daughter dance (much closer to my mom than dad) and I'm planning on using:

Like My Mother Does (still debating which artist to use)

My processional was: The Story,by Brandie Carlisle (performed by an amazing vocalist) (the song has a soft but powerful undercurrent with a beautiful story, it was perfect, not many dry eyes, including my tough guy (now) husband)

    Our recessional was: Signed, Sealed,Delivered

Our first dance was :With this ring

Entrance song to reception was: The best of my love

    Father/Daughter dance: My girl

    * I listened to Pandora at work every day and jotted down songs as I heard them that I wanted on the playlist or my special ones, also I found this music list on WW very helpful

    Good luck Smiley smile

We are probably having a Harpist so the songs we picked for the ceremony are ones that we liked the sound of on the harp...

Processional (bridal party) Enya- To go beyond

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVy-iqyptrg

Processional (me) Lark on the Strand- Traditional Celtic Song

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcPldW96gwU

Recessional Fanny Poer (Traditional Celtic song)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Y-iYJ-psTg

First dance- This is from the first concert we went to together. We had just got engaged and we having issues agreeing on a song. We also had a mostly phone relationship until we moved in together a year ago. Blue October-Calling You

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JKOnYh6snc

Parent dance- We had decided to do a joint father/daughter Mother/son dance and sadly my song has jumped to great popularity since I fell in love with it but Im keeping it. Neither FH or I have the best relationship with our parents but we wouldnt give up on them. So Jason Mraz- I wont give up.

Processional : "To a Wild Rose" The guy playing the piano at the ceremony suggested it and I loved it!

Recessional : Uncle Kracker's "Smile" because everytime I heard it, it made me think of my dude and I smiled. He liked the song, too.

First dance :We were originally going with one of two songs by Dave Barnes, either "God Gave Me You" or "Nothing Fancy." I really wanted something that spoke about us as a couple and wasn't too commercial. THen "God Gave Me You" got redone by Blake Shelton & was a hit. And the more I listened to "Nothing Fancy" I didn't like how it made the guy sound like a little bit of a loser. Then I stumbled onto a song called "One Good Love" by Waylon Jennings and Neil Diamond. As both of us are a little older (40's) and have been through lots of crap to find each other, it totally fit. Plus my dude is a Waylon fan. I loved dancing to that song with him!

Parent dances : I danced with my mom to Reba McIntyre's "I'm a Survivor" because that's what she is! Smiley smile

I downloaded Spotify onto my computer and my Fiance and I spent an evening thinking about our childhood and all the songs we have loved through the years and then were able to pull them up and listen to them on spotify. We wrote everything down as we went. We ended up dancing in the living room by the end of the night. It was actually really fun and got us excited about the reception. For music that appeals to everyone, I googled reception dance songs 2012 and made up a list of the ones that worked for us!
