Police officers at your venue?!

Rosemary , on June 17, 2013 at 10:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Has anyone out there been required to have a police officer at their venue by the management? If so how was your experience?

We are required to hire 2 officers. Paying each 25.00 an hour so its costing us 250.00. I bartend weddings so I'm used to seeing the police officers there I've never seen it be a bad experience.

That is the weirdest thing I have ever heard of. No wedding I've ever been at required security.

Granted our wedding planner's husband was a retired police officer, so if anything did get crazy....

Like GypsyBride, we are serving alcohol, so LA County Sheriffs will be present.

They were always required where we used to live and shot video for ten years before moving. Sorry for the extra expense, I'm sure that's all you need to hear right now! But they can be nice to have around. They don't do anything, just hang around, unless something happens. I think sometimes just their presence prevents things from getting too out of hand. And if anything does happen (there was a fight in a parking lot of the venue once) they are really nice to have around!

P.S. Police officers really know how to party when it is their own wedding - always a good time!

I have tried to rent some facilities to host some parties at that require 2 police officers to be hired if alcohol is to be served.

We are required to have security (not sworn peace officers) at our venue as well because we are serving alcohol. FH is a LEO so there will be plenty of police officers in attendance as guests also.

We are required by the venue to have security however it is included in the package and they provide their own. Personally I find this comforting considering mine won't be the only party there that night and it keeps my guests under control and helps prevent any unwanted crashers.

I found this totally amusing... not in a rude way, just never ever heard of police or security officers being required at a wedding before!

Makes me wonder what kind of shindigs you all are throwin! hahaa

My original fancy venue required them, two at $35 an hour each. Another reason we decided against the venue.

I've never even heard of this, though I am looking to get a security officer, for personal security reasons.

Most of the venues we looked at required a security guard or officer to be there if we were serving any kind of alcohol, I thought that was weird so we ruled out a lot of the places we looked into. Luckily our venue allows alcohol without an officer you just have to purchase liquor liability insurance for around $120. I would much rather do that than have a random police officer there and have to pay them!

My venue does not require security, but I am considering hiring someone, FH's friends don't know moderation and I don't need idiots making a fool of themselves in front of my family.

We're having ours at a local park and we are required to have a security officer also if there is going to be alcohol, of which there will be plenty.
