Plated Dinner- How many options are you giving your guests?

Married, on February 6, 2013 at 12:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

We have our tasting this Friday, and I am wondering how many choices we should give our guests, I feel like "chicken or beef" is pretty common, should we provide a vegetarian option, or would a fish option be ok?

I feel like a majority of our guests will choose chicken or beef, but I do have 2 guests that I know of that are vegetarians, but I have no idea if they can eat fish or not!

Help!

Do one vegetarian. A couple of our guests chose that option although they're not vegetarians. But those ravioli were awesome, so a few people went for them.

We're giving 3 beef, fish, and veggie. I know a hand full that will choose veggie just because they don't eat either beef or fish. I know chicken is a popular option, I just didn't like the choice on our menu. You should see if you can do vegetarian on request instead of an option. We didn't have the choice, but some places do that.

I'm not giving a choice. I'm doing a duet of ny strip and chicken wellington. However, on my rsvp card I will give a check box for Vegetarians to indicate such

I like the duet idea. If not, beef, 'not beef" (chicken or fish) and a veg.

I'm not loving making people choose on their RSVP; some people don't remember what they chose to eat a month before, others will respond for them and their guest. I always feel like I'm on a plane; here's you entree that you ordered weeks ago.....

We're doing 4, beef, chicken, fish or veggie. Does your caterer offer a veggie alternative or do you have to specifically make a veggie option one of your choices?

We did Beef, Fish and a vegetarian option for people (but that wasn't included in the RSVP)

Thanks for all your feedback ladies! I think we will probably do chicken, beef and fish with an option for vegetarians if needed.

@Christina R- I am not sure, I will find out on Friday. They had 2 veggie options on the menu they gave us to choose from, some sort of penne pasta and a veggie stir fry.....but we can only taste 4 entrees, and I didnt want to waste one of our choices on a veggie dish Smiley smile I love veggies but as a side dish not a meal!

We did a chicken, beef and veggie option. To be honest, they were all so amazing I don't even know what I plan on attempting to eat! Smiley smile

Just put vegetarian, and then if they respond they are coming then call them and ask if they prefer veggie or fish.

We aren't giving them an option (it costs an extra $5 for plate for 2 options) and with 160 people that adds up. We're only having a line about dietary restrictions.

Like Rachel G. We didn't give them an option. We also just had a line about dietary restrictions and knew ahead of time about 2 of our friends who are vegetarian and would not eat the chicken dish. Beyond that, we just let our chef know about the restrictions and which tables had them. Worked out great and everyone loved the dinner.

SIL's wedding, which is next month has two options: beef or chicken.

If you don't ask guests to choose on the RSVP do you send a waiter around taking orders before they bring the food out? Does this add a lot of time to the dinner portion of the night?

They take orders right as the guests are seated, before the salad course. It doesn't add any time at all.

We are giving 3 options – chicken, fish, and vegetarian pasta. Guests are also provided with appetizers and soup or salad option before the main entrée. We are having an 11:00am ceremony with the reception immediately following so we wanted to keep the entrees lighter. I’m still debating on whether or not we should throw in a red meat instead of the chicken or fish.

I am a vegetarian, and I do not eat fish, so I would say provide a vegetarian entrée. Usually it’s some type of pasta, and you’ll find that even some non-vegetarians order the pasta. That’s just my opinion, probably bias since I’m vegetarian.

I know our venue needs us to turn in the menu in advance. There is no option for taking orders the day of. It's a nice idea, but I know our venue won't do that so it may be something worth checking into with your reception site or caterer.

Mine have 4 options: chicken, steak, fish, and veggie.

And so far the majority have come back wanting steak. Yum!
