Plantable favors for New England fall wedding?

So every time my friend and I are in Hobby Lobby we giggle over all of the burlap stuff available (you can even get a burlap guest book!) It reminds me of "Derelicte" from Zoolander. Smiley smile

I've decided it would really tickle me to have burlap favor bags. But what to put in them? I thought wrapped candy would be easy (since we're getting married close to Halloween.)

I am also considering flower bulbs. I found at tulipworld you can get 100 bulbs for like $38 which is a great price. But is just one or two bulbs kinda lame? How many bulbs do people usually plant if they want some color in their yard?

I'm guessing seed packets wouldn't work because you'd have to wait until spring to plant them?

I know nothing about gardening so I don't know what would be good for a mid-October wedding in Massachusetts.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure about the cost, but little succulent plants would be super cute! I really wanted to use them as favors or decor in my wedding but they wouldn't match any of the decor unless I spray painted them (too much work)

Succulent plants are a great idea, but they come in little pots, and I'm not sure that would work with the burlap bags I really want to use.

Also, can anyone tell me how to change my thumbnail? i uploaded a profile pic but it's not showing up the forums. ?

I would do something edible- those tend to be taken more often. Those little candy pumpkins would be cute or maybe some baked pumkin seeds

What about doing something like mulling spices for apple cider with a cute tag / recipe card. Think that's one of my favorite New England fall items. Also think of maple syrup but that doesn't really go in a burlap bag.

ETA: If you wanted to continue the fall theme / apples. I love this escort card idea- http://bellzandwhistlezblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/vintagemodernapple-green-wedding.html

Yes, I agree, edible is good. If someone put seeds or bulbs as a favor, I'd take one, stick it somewhere and completely forget all about it...

mulling spices are a great idea! those apples are adorable, never seen that!

I think guests don't care about favors much but I see them as part of the decoration, and there are just too many choices!
