We’re very excited to announce that the Rockstar program is back! Rockstars are leaders of our Community who work hard to welcome new members, start interesting discussions, and answer member questions. They also have special powers to help them keep the Community organized, for example moving discussions to the correct group, quickly removing spam, and locking discussions if needed. Rest assured, Rockstars don’t have access to any member’s private information. Rockstars feature a blue and white star on their profile picture so you know who they are.

Of course, we have to thank everyone who took the time to complete our Rockstar survey in 2017 and gave us feedback to help shape the program today. We’re very excited to share this news with you and answer any questions.

I saw that too. I would like to know the details of the criteria for choosing people. Also is it just me or did you take a break there for a little? Haven't seen you in a minute.

Agreed. Not sure how the criteria was chosen or how members who joined AFTER the survey went out early last fall could become rockstars if someone did not reach out to them directly

We made certain to include regular users into the group - many are VIPs and Expert level members, many have been here well over a year, a few are already married and used this community all along their planning process so know the community really well. Yes, some are newer to the Community but have already proved they are frequent commenters and enthusiastic about helping the Community. And remember that this is only a small sample of our whole membership and more will be added later.

I definitely want to reinforce that the Rockstar program is focused on being encouraging, supportive, and helpful in the Community - they are not an additional fleet of mini-mods.

The ability to close discussions will be primarily used for spam, commerical content and advertising.

To explain what I mean by closing discussions that are "spiraling absolutely out of control" - I'm talking about physical threats of violence, obscene attacks, and things of that nature. The rare threads you see that make 30 people email the mods right away!

I understand the worry here but we have many checks i place to prevent this. The Community Team will closely moderate the Rockstars discussions and all actions they take. If we see anyone misuse their powers they will be taken away from them.

We considered overall forum contributions, and also focused a lot on recent activity! Our Rocktars are some of the top contributors in the community this year. They are also people we see giving great and supportive advice, and giving some attention to discussions without a lot of comments.

We also tried to pick people at different points in the planning process, and in different time zones and states!

Why can't we view some of the rockstars profiles?

I know their settings most likely have it that way, but how are we going to gain any trust with them if they're not as open with us as the normal mods are? Can rockstars see the normal users profiles who have their settings to be private?

We were asked for a list of the new Rockstars and if they would be introducing themselves and they've done just that. They are sharing who they are, how their planning is going, and their history in the community. So far it all seems relevant and within the Guidelines.

These Rockstars were only set up today, so we may still have some settings to adjust. But know that no, Rockstars cannot view any private information or any private profiles.

What does "great and supportive advice"

You can't ALWAYS be supportive of something to give great advice. More times than not you have to be a little realistic. That was part of the good thing about WW - you could come here to get HONEST advice and maybe open your eyes a little bit.

Exactly. This was clearly done in part to discourage blunt and honest feedback. Support =/= validation.

Being able to disagree positively, argue respectfully, and give tough advice with kindness is a key ability we look for in potential Rockstars. Rockstars aren't here to agree with everyone's idea (none of us are!), they are all independent, unique people with their own minds, opinions, and experiences, and we hope they will share those with you. We want them to keep being honest with our members and making sure everyone comes away from our forums with helpful information and solid advice to make the best planning decisions possible, so they'll have to disagree sometimes! They'll need to give that tough advice or present that counterargument with respect.

Will that be a setting that's adjusted?

Also, will they be monitoring the local groups as well?

How often will new Rockstars be chosen? I love helping and think it would be kinda cool to help out this way.

Isn't that literally what a moderator is? Are Rockstars being financially compensated?
