Mother Daughter Dance - Need Opinions

Erin, on May 29, 2011 at 11:40 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So I have a Dad and Step Dad that I am dancing with at my wedding. My FH also has a Mom and Step Mom and he is dancing with. However, I really want to dance with my Mom because she is the one who is always and has always been there for us. Without going into it, my mom is the greatest thing for many reasons. I'd like to dedicate a song to her as well as a surprise. We're already doing 4 parent dances...I just don't know when I should do my Moms. Halfway through the ceremony? Any opinions are appreciated!

If it was me I would do the song like right before or right after you all cut the cake.

I am dancing with my mom to Every Mother's Dream- Treasa something.

You could do something like Mama's Song or Ill stand by you both by carrie underwood... Sorry I only have country suggestions.

I think you are doing a lot of dances. Maybe you could share the song when your FH dances with his stepmom. I have step parents and I just decided not to include them.

I like the idea of sharing the dance, just to cut down the number. I danced with my mom to Mama's Song-Carrie Underwood and my DH danced with his mother to "In My Life" The Beatles. I didn't have a father daughter dance and would have felt left out without doing something.

I'm also dancing with my Dad and Step-dad, FH is going to dance with his mom during my father-daughter dance, and my mom during my dance with my Step-dad. I'm going to have Mama's song by Carrie Underwood played during the reception and dedicate it to my mom and dance with her, but I'm not going to have it be a special dance that everyone has to watch. I'm also going to dedicate a song to my brother who's been there for me through everything and is the best big brother I could ask for.

We're doing the traditional father/daughter and mother/son dances, but I am super close to my mom and plan on surprising her by playing Carrie Underwood's Mama's Song. Not sure exactly how I'm going to have it done or when, but it will probably be after dinner and probably just dedicate it to her and dance with her bot not close the dance floor to others, kind of like Future Mrs. S. said.

Another really good Mother dance is Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler

Yeah, I have already picked the song Wind Beneath My Wings for it. She's closer to me and my FH than any of the other parents...even his. And she'll never expect it because as she helps me plan stuff, it's always for everyone else. And it's always been that way. And she's the only one who hasn't caused us any drama. I am going to for sure dance with her to this song, I just didn't know when. Perhaps I could keep the dance floor open when I do it and make it happen a few songs into the reception.

As a mother of an adult daughter, I think a dance with your mom is so incredible. She will love it. As to when, we are not quite sure.

Yes, it appears like a lot of dances, but you can start the dance out solo and have your DJ invite everyone to join.
