May be a Stupid Question... But, How did you learn to wear high heels??

STB Mrs Van Blargan, on January 16, 2011 at 1:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 35

I always dreamed of being able to wear heels but I cant wear them without twisting my ankle or hurting my feet or falling. How did you learn to wear heels?? I am wondering because I have a beautiful pair of heels that I have never worn and would like to wear them for the wedding (my FH bought them for my prom but we never went).. Please help me, what should I do?? Is there a right and wrong way to train yourself into learning to walk in high heels?? Thanks!!

Hmm well the way I did it was just by doing it! You need to walk transferring your weight evenly from heel to toe with each step. Start with a shorter heel like 2 inches and work your way up.

When I was 16-19 I used to wear high heels to work where I had to stand on my feet 7-10 hrs per day doing hostess and retail jobs.. I could never do that now, what was I thinking?!?! I used to wake up with the most painful charlie horses in the middle of the night from it.

Also a good pair makes all the difference. Cheap materials can really make your feet suffer. Someone wise always said "invest your money in a good mattress and good shoes because you spend half your life in one or the other"

I'm really not an expert in wearing heels..once i hit the 3 inch mark, well i have a few pairs just sitting in my closet, but I want to get to that point too..I have though before just wore them around the house to get used to them..For my wedding i'm using kitten heels; Depending on your ability now, I'd say start practicing asap, you don't want to have any spills down the aisle! lol :-)

I agree with Ms. L. you have to get you a nice quality pair of heels. You need the support if not anything around your ankles. I can't remember how I learned but I'm sure when I first put them on I just walked really slow. lol.

Angel wearing High heels isn't a must you can always resort to flats and they can be just as beautiful.

My sister taught me to walk on the front pads (?) of your feet, instead of leaning back on your heels. but honestly my feet still hurt after two or three hours of wearing any type of heel. I would start to wear the heels in now, then a month or two before your wedding do it again so if you are going to get blisters, your feet have time to make caluses before your wedding. i personally will be wearing flats because for me after standing walking and dancing in heels for 6 hours sounds pretty horrible!

My dress is getting hemmed on the 5th of February. I am planning on wearing flats, but I was also wondering about what about if I wore these heels (since Ive never wore them after my FH bought them for me (like 3 years ago.)

For my first school dance, my aunt and mom and me walking back and forth in the house. Sometime between then and now, it's become second nature. Stilletos are just about as comfortable as anything else now. But it's just like Ms.L said... gotta invest in good shoes!! Smiley smile Yours look pretty good though... shouldn't be too difficult. Just start walking in them around the house. You'll get it in no time!!

And, if you just don't feel comfortable, flats are OK too! I'm wearing flats with my dress. As much as I love heels, I am 5'7 and don't want to be as tall as my FH..

Well good question ... I actually never really practiced walking in heels and then one day my dance instructor asked me to start wearing heels to dance in! She said the level I was going into next, we would be dancing in heels, so I got a nice little pair of show heels (they're about a 1.5 to 2 inch) heel height with a strap across the top tand would wear those ... eventually they became 2nd nature to me and now I wear heels whenever humanly possible! But just start walking around the house in them ... practice dancing in them with your FS (despite years of dancing in heels, I plan to practice with FS in my wedding day shoes) also look into buying a pair with a strap across to help the heel stay on your foot ... and don't buy cheap shoes! Oh please don't buy cheap heels, I did that once and will never ever do it again. Now I spend a minimum of $30 on a pair ...

Just walk around in your house with them on...like all weekend. To break in a new pair of heals I love, I usually do my weekend cleaning in them, 3-4 hours of walking around, vacuuming, dusting, laundry, etc will get you used to them in no time!

I'm wearing flats for our wedding, because I found a cute pair (www.toms.com/wedding) and I want to be able to dance and have a good time with out worrying about my feet hurting. I've always been a flat girl, but if needed I have a few good pairs of heals that I can wear all day.

LOVE THE SHOES!! i have a pair almost exactly the same Smiley smile i learned by just doing it. i just recently within the past 3 or 4 months started wearing any kind of heals. i started out by wearing a near nothing 1/2 inch ish, then worked up. im to my ending point at a whopping 1 1/2- 2 inches lol! i, like you would break my neck if i went much more. also a brand i have found to be quite comfy and really affordable is modern girl brand. i have 2-3 pair and i got them at shoe carnival and i dont think i paid over 15 for any of them.

I will probably wear flats for the wedding. But, I want to learn to wear heels for going out with the FH. I have always dreamed of a perfect pair of ankle boots with a heel. I found the perfect pair and Im really wondering if I should get them and then just practice in them.. They are from Payless, but are like $35.

The first time i wore heels it was for v-day in 2005 and i had a pair of silettoes and i just walked around my house in them for a few days till i got used to them. i walked up and down the stairs and just did stuff in the house to build up the strength. then after that i've been wearing them ever since. it also helps to break them in as well cause when they are new they can be a lil tight. so just practice and you'll be fine
