Ladies - Please Show Me Your Bustles -

Carole M (a.k.a "old tart"), on June 22, 2012 at 4:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Cate flies in tonight so that we can go for her first fitting. However, we can't make up our mind as to what kind of bustle. I have a slew of pictures. I have googled and done the research, and I think she is favoring this bustle. I think this is a Five Point French Bustle, but I think this is what she is looking at.

Which is better, the first, which is a French Bustle or the 2nd?

The 2nd is actually a picture of her dress Cassablanca 1999 bustled.

I'm not sure what my bustle was called. I just kinda let my seamstress do whatever she thought worked best. It had 8 points. 5 on one layer and 3 on another. My dress had a fairly long train to it. I was happy with my bustle. It left all the detail at the bottom of the dress and it still had a nice sweep to it when I moved.

    Beautiful ladies!

Mrs. Lemmon, So I tell our seamstress, no hook and eyes, use buttons?

Mrs.Ohler, I love it. It looks like an "under bustle"???

I think mine is the same as the 2nd pic, for some reason I think her dress will look better with the one from the first pic

Sorry I have no pics :-/

Mine also had a hook and eye and it fell out after about five seconds. My DOC safety-pinned my bustle together on the dance floor b/c I kept getting stepped on. Smiley smile

All very confusing as my seamstress was actually kind of a magician when it came to really complicated projects, and she has her own line of handmade gorgeous wedding gowns. The bustle just fell apart.

I feel like there were a couple of really amazing bustle threads a while back, let me go digging...

Here it is. Oldie but goodie. Smiley smile

    Mrs.Ohler....Thanks. I agree the dress shouldn't hang.

Tach...I keep coming back to that bustle/dress too. It's a mermaid bottom. Cate's a fit and flare with a long train. This is the stock photo.

Kris...Believe it or not, DH will be the one actually bustling. My hands are nimble enough to do those darn hook and eyes. Thanks for that thread. I scoured it. : )

I like the first one better but that's because I have never been a fan of a dress bustled right below the butt probably because I have as much "bustle" back there as I need without attention being drawn to it LOL!

I don't have a picture of it but my seamstress suggested a ballroom bustle all of the points are on the underside of the dress and I really loved it when she pinned it up.

My bustle is just one button, but I like how it looks! You can kind of see it in the picture though it doesn't show the back very well. My dress is very light fabric though.

Buttons absolutely!! My MIL and I created my bustle with no instructions...I just told her what I wanted and we pieced it together. It was simple to bustle at the reception, and stayed where it was supposed to all night....

We STARTED with a hook-and-eye system and realized that just wasn't going to be secure, and I definitely didn't want to have to worry about it after it was in place. It was perfect!

Yes or strings to tie it from under neath....I think a lot. of my problem was where the bustle sat so every time I sat down they came undone

Ab Z....Thank you. Your train looks lovely. I am def going to ask for buttons. While I won't be bustling, that's DH's job(my hands are not nimble), I would rather it stay once it was bustled.

Crystal Bleau....Thanks too! Your train also looks lovely. Your MIL and you did that? That is amazing. I can't sew a button, seriously. : )

I hope I can talk Cate into the first one. It's flattering and looks easy to do.
