Kids VS No Kids at Wedding

A lot of our guests have kids so this makes our wedding list go up, up and UP! Should I say "no kids allowed except family" and have them find a sitter for their kids or let them bring them? I have no problem having them there at all, but if we said "No one younger than 18" than we could free up space and add some more guests that we really want there, but can't have because we have guest/budget limit.

Are you allowing your guests to bring their kids or are you having a "no kid" wedding?

We put an age limit on our and requested that no children under the age of 12 attend. That way only teenagers are attending and are pretty much aware of what is happening and know how to mind their manners.

Since I am having my wedding earlier in the day, I have allowed folks to bring their kids - we will have refreshments set up by the beach just after the wedding. The reception will be formal, so it's a "black tie" option. I worded the invites that children are allowed to the beach ceremony. On the reception cards, I wrote on the left hand corner, no children please. This way everyone is clear. So do what you feel is best. People understand if you don't want children invited to the reception because of its cost - and believe it or not, people are glad to go out and leave the kids behind so that they can go out and have a great time. Good luck!

At my previous reception, due to the large number of children that our friends had, we decided to make it an adult-only event. I hired two local well-known sitters and had them come to my house. Paid them one flat rate for the evening, and offered the sitters to my guests. All the kids had a great time at the huge play date and the adults enjoyed a nice evening out.

I think that it is okay to have an adult only wedding. It is too costly to include children who may or may not actually eat the meal that you payed way to much for them to eat. Also, a wedding is not exciting for children and if they do not have anything to hold their attention, they will become the entertainment. LOL. We are having an adult only reception. The venue we chose allows up to 5 kids to eat for free, which my wedding will include 3 children, our daughter and my soon to be step children(twins).

We had an adults only wedding. Our venue was a pub, so legally we couldn't have any guests under the age of 21. Our reception was very boozy, and our space was long and narrow and not really safe for ankle-biters.

Nobody really gave us any blowback about it (because you have to be pretty frickin' tacky to want to take your BABY to a BAR, anyway). Most of the parents were excited to get away from their kids and go on a date night. We had one guest try to push for us to let his 20-year-old stepdaughter come, but we said no because we didn't want to deal with the liability if she managed to get served.

I can see the mentality of "weddings are a family event, so the whole family should be there," but I personally think it's the bride and groom's call.

I am having kids at my wedding. We together have 3 kids on my wedding day they will be 16,12, and 5. Two years ago I had to miss a wedding due to not being able to find a sitter or other situation for my older kids during the wedding. The venue didn't allow kids over 5 and under 21 due to chances of serving them acohol. It was at a winery. I felt left out singled out as a parent of older kids. We have a growing list of kids under 20 as most of my FH's cousins are having babies. I believe my last guest count was about 85 of which a third are kids including my own. Due to price not how many kids are there decided against achohol.

We're doing an all adult reception. We had over 50 kids alone! Without kids we only have 100 ppl. We're it that way for three main reasons; budget, it'll be a nice night out for everyone away from kids, and we will have a pool and hot tub available. It's just a safety hazard to have kids running around with a pool and hot tub.

The little girls I know would never forgive me if "Auntie" Sami got married and didn't let them come! I also happen to love kids in their dress clothes. And... (which is a biggie for me) my caterer is preparing a separate kids meal, in a separate room (with babysitters) so the kids don't get antsy during the dinner and speeches. I'm not a mom yet, but what I've noticed is that moms never seem to get to eat their dinner when the little ones are around, I'd like my guests to get to enjoy some adult conversation and some adult food. They will join us after dinner for cake and dancing. I also want to pose the question of what time is the wedding vs regular bed time for the kids? Could they come for the ceremony and some pictures and then a relative/ sitter could come pick them up so the parents can enjoy the rest of their evening? My vote is split =), in my situation having kids will work out great, but may not be right for everyone. Good luck!

I have decided on only having my close family have their kids suchs as neices and nephews and I am close to my cousins but that is all we are having.. No more than that as my neices and nephews are all older like 11-16 and my one sister has 2 little ones .. But she knows when they can leave and such... No more kids then what I am close too.

I would say if there are more adults that are very close to you and that you would love to have at your wedding, but currently with the head count, could not be included. I would agree to go with an adult reception. You don't have to explain to anyone why your flower girl/ring bear or nephew, etc are there. It is your wedding! Smiley smile

I think adults forget they can enjoy themselves a little bit more when they don't have to worry about bed time and fussy kids. My company did a wedding, where we had a vendor called "weddings with kids" come out and do a treasure hunt, smores and activities to keep the kids busy. But that's if you have the budget.

    Good luck with everything!!

My family has so many children.

I sort of have the idea of having a kids buffet, at their level, with all sorts of kid food stuff that they can eat from.

I plan on having my wedding in a big, open, farm-like venue, so they'll have plenty of room to run and play, and I wouldn't mind setting up a kid-friendly game area.

I love children. Truly, the more the merrier.

None of our siblings have children and very few of our extended family have young kids, we were able to cut our guest list by about 15 people by not inviting children. which will be a huge savings for us! my suggestion is to go with what you feel is right. most of those kids aren't going to remember going to your wedding when they are older.

I have to have kids! I'm a teacher so I adore little ones, we will have approximately 20 kids there. We have there tables set up in back decorated for kids with activities for them to help occupy their time. My kids are taking dance lessons with me and my FH, can't wait to see my babies foxtrot..lol..

With that said, it takes alot more planning, more $$ and more stress to have them there. I have a couple of ladies that are very close to me who have stood up to be "sitters".

Personally, I hate children at weddings.

My wedding was child-free. MY daughters almost was. One of her husbands friends brought his brat. Yep, he was a brat. I was not happy that there was a fussy kid in the back of the room. Amazingly enough, the bratty kid disappeared for the reception. Go figure. Oy!

My daughters MIL intended to bring her 2 year old grandson, who is, from what I hear, a terror. She did not RSVP for him (he wasn't invited) but told several family members that she intended to bring him to annoy me. Well, we did convince her not to do it. She did not bring him. Whew!
