Italian Wedding Theme

JJ, on January 28, 2011 at 9:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Since you ladies are so wonderful with coming up with ideas... Can anyone help with creating an Italian wedding theme? We are getting married in October in a garden (reception is inside). The only things I have so far are wine corks for my escort cards and a HUGE wine bottle filled with flowers for the arrangement at the escort card table. Thanks in advance!

You could have a dessert table with just Italian desserts like cannolis, pizzelles, torrone, etc.

Your wedding cake could be a cassatta cake.

You could play some American standards by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.

How far do you want to go with the theme?

I'm trying to make the theme recognizable, but not overwhelming. We're both Italian and got engaged in Italy.

What about doing kind of Tuscan colors- deep reds and mustardy yellows with grapes and vines, etc.

A cute centerpiece idea would be wine boxes with fake grapes and vines hanging out.

haha- or go totally cheesy and get a huge leaning tower for the archway! Ok, not really...

Instead of having table numbers you could have your tables named after places in Italy. If you have enough pictures from FHs and your trip to Italy you could even use those pics as a backdrop for your table names.

Good idea Konichiwa- Rome, Verona, Venice, Milan. Or famous landmarks- Leaning tower of Pisa, Milan Cathedral, Sistine Chapel, Mt Vesuvius (for the in-laws???)

My family is Italian as well- I plan on serving a pasta starter course (instead of salad) and having a Gelato bar for dessert Smiley smile

If you are willing to spend a bit of money (not too much)- have large pictures of famous landmarks made into maybe 20X20 (or smaller) sizes and lay them on the tables, almost like an overlay.

My fiance is Italian, and we're doing a box with different Italian cookies as the favors. Still working on where to get the cookies from though that doesn't break the bank Smiley smile

Wow, you got engaged in Italy. That is awesome. Where?

We are of Italian descent as well. I am doing a full Italian pastry table(I am baking.), and a totally Italian menu. The menu was a difficult task in Vermont. Also, I will be doing all the baking and bringing it with.

My grandmother would say you have to have the Jordan Almonds http://www.jordanalmondflowers.com/ We had them on the same table as the groom cake near the entrance. I agree with Meghan, those colors would be great both for the Italian theme and the season. Also depending on your reception serving things family style would be nice. Here are some traditions that are simple. We also did the money bag, my grams made it. http://www.worldweddingtraditions.com/locations/west_europe_traditions/italian_traditions.html

Thanks for jogging my memory ladies! Here are a few other things that were mentioned above that we're already thinking.. our table #s are going to be postcards of places we went. And we already chose deep red for the BM dresses. And since FH mostly eats pasta, that's already in our dinner package.

Carol B(Aka date twin!) - we got engaged on a beach at sunset in Positano, but had made our way all through Italy the week before that. And translation please? lol

Thanks for all the great ideas ladies, I'm about to go through all the links now (i'm "working" so it may take a bit).
