Is anyone else NOT having a wedding video?

Karla, on August 1, 2012 at 2:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 69

If you're married and didn't have one, do you regret it now?

If you’re getting married are you planning on having one, what are your reasons?

And if you’re not having one, why not?

As of right now we are NOT having one, due to budget… I rather spend the money on photographer… and he doesn’t do video!

At the moment we booked him we didn’t care much about a wedding video, because my sisters & cousins who have had a videographer haven’t watched their video in their 10 yrs they’ve been married… so is it a waste of money?

I’m asking because now that I’ve seen some wedding videos online.. they are so cute, sweet and very touching, and I think I might want to watch it on every anniversary! lol

I've been watching things that people have been posting and crying all day too. We weren't planning on getting one but I think we might look into getting something inexpensive (like a local art student) and not having it edited and then later on, if we can afford it, getting all that raw footage edited.

For the entire time my FH and I have been planning our wedding, the one thing he has always said was "I want a videographer" He has not had many other requests. At one point, we had to cut something out, and I was considering the videographer, however my FH said "no way!" so we stayed with the videographer and I am so happy we did. We just booked ours and it was so great to see her videos, they are beautiful. We want to be able to look back on our video 10years from now, especially to be able to show our children! Smiley smile People say that day goes by so fast, so why not relive it? :p

I am really happy my FH expressed his opinion about the videographer and continued to fight for it, I'm happy we booked one and I am looking forward to seeing the video later!

We only had a photographer (due to budget AND the fact that Greg and I HATE video). I don't regret it. Neither does he. I love the videos other couples have posted, and I think it's great--just wasn't our style. Plus, even if we had liked the idea, it wasn't in our budget and we wouldn't have skimped on our guests just so WE could have a cute video of us. We kept it simple, and our guests thanked us for feeding them all so well. For us, it was definitely expendable. :-)

Our budget simply won't allow it however we are considering the WedFlik as a possible compromise because I too have been enjoying the wedding videos posted.

Thanks girls @ Sara.. thatnks to the videos ive been watching on here also i'm thinking of looking for one too! lol I also thought.. I don't care if we don't have a ceremony musician, i don't care if we have just a dj at our reception. I don't care if we have small flower arrangements, I don't care if we have little party favors, as long as we have a GREAT Photographer! That's where i was whiling to spend more money on than anything else.. even the venue itself.. lol

BUT NOOOOW..... hmmmm, video or no video!?!?! lol

In the beginning we were not going to have one but honestly the WW videos I have seen on here chaged our minds and we booked one a month before our wedding. I think we will watch it just to remember the day as it passes so fast.

We didn't plan on having one, we were just gonna have pics. But then SIL showed up with an Ipad and started recording. I didn't think it would matter, but now that we have it, I think it would have been a huge regret not to. You ladies could always ask a family memeber to do it for free. I mean, it doesn't have to be professional, does it?

I won't have money in my budget either, but it's not really terribly important to me, to be honest. I'm like you and I think pictures are the most important thing.

As a suggestion, a friend of mine had a close family friend who loves doing videos of parties and things take a video and go around and get waves and greetings from the guests, and she really loved the result! This is probably what I'm going to try to do as well. (I also have a little wager going with my FH that he'll cry, and if I don't have video evidence, I might lose cause I won't be able to prove it!)

@ Amy, & Michelle you are right.. I too will probably only watch it once.. and with technology changing so fast and constant who knows if the form we get now will still be playable in 10yrs lol

@STBMrs.H WedFlik sounds like a good idea.. there’s always a family member with a handy-dandy video recorder.. Smiley smile

We couldn't afford it either, and we got very lucky that a colleague of my FH's is going to do it for "a case of beer" (we are totally getting him a thank you gift also). He is only doing the ceremony, but that's all I wanted anyway, since ours is going to be so personalized. I really wanted to remember our vows and all the little touches we added throughout, so I'm overjoyed we were able to get video even though it wasn't in the budget.

Can you just ask a guest that's a friend to video your ceremony? Even on a little point and shoot camera, it would be nice to have those memories!

I'm not I don't see the point how many times do you watch it? Like twice probably not worth the money in my book I prefer pics and I can make a slide show if I want

Until recently, whenever the topic of a videographer would come up, I would be the first person to express how much of a waste of money a videographer is and how I would only watch it once and then it would just collect dust in it's case somewhere, whereas I would rather invest money in a great photographer since photos can be displayed at all times.

With that said, we only had a photographer at our wedding, and while I don't regret not having a videographer, after seeing so many amazing wedding videos here on weddingwire, I have changed my opinion. Wedding videos have really changed in the past couple years. They are no longer long boring videos, but can really be edited into beautiful pieces of art.

If my wedding hadn't already passed, I would add money to our budget to add a a videographer in addition to our fabulous photog. I don't "regret" not having one, but knowing what I know now and seeing what I have seen, I would have added one.

@ Kristen.. I like your idea...I think i will be happy with just one of our guest shooting the ceremony only.. That's what i most want to be filmed anyway... And a slide of all our pictures sounds like a great idea too thanks Sara!

Nope not having one - I would have one, but there just is no more room in my budget for it - most of my budget is going towards taking care of my guests with food, a DJ, an open bar, and transportation to and from the venue so no one has to argue over who's going to DD lol. It's probably all for the best anyways - I hate seeing myself on camera...I'm very photogenic, but when the camera's actually rolling it's a whoooole different story haha

It's actually pretty easy to do it yourself on your pc. Thats what I did. I used Windows Live Photo Editor. It was totally free and easy. All together, we maybe had 30-45 minutes of wedding and reception video. You can cut scenes out, add text, music, everything. I condensed ours down to three minutes and we love it. We watch it nearly everyday. It's probably the song. We both love it. Here is the finished product.
