OMG! All you people espousing not buying people drinks for your weddings. Do you charge people for drinks when they come over for dinner? Psst, that glass of chardonnay will be $8, that Canadian will be $5, that Coke will be $2. If you do, then there is no hope for you here. If you don't why the hell would you for your wedding? HOST your wedding, it's just a big dinner party!

Most of the weddings I have been to had open bar for cocktail hour, then had cash bar for the remainder of the night. It is annoying to have to spend so much money to just attend a wedding in the first place, so not hosting the bar is definitely frowned upon. I would suggest at least paying for your guests to have beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. During this whole wedding planning process, my FH and I made open bar at the top of the "must have" list because we have been to so many that were not set up that way... meanwhile we were already paying so much for hotel, gift, outfits, etc.

@Debbie/Karen - You sound like a peach. I wouldn't expect to pay for my drinks just like I wouldn't expect to pay for my food at someone's party they were hosting. I assume you gave all the guests their bill for dinner as well.

ETA - Do you really think they would tell you to your face that you were a rude host? LOL!

" if people feel the need to waste more money on alcohol your choice"

Yup, and the cash will come right out of the cash gift I would have brought.

I kind of just want to let all the people do "whatever they want because it's their day" and feel good knowing their guests are judging them. I mean it's like talking to a wall.

Honestly what needs to start happening is when people are rude and host cash bars, someone needs to take one for the team and tell them they hosted poorly AT THE RECEPTION. Then these people can stop saying "No one TOLD me they were unhappy when they had to pay $8.00 for a glass of shitty chardonnay. Everyone was PLEASED to take their wallets out to celebrate my marriage!"

Don't drink if you can afford to pay for it water is free of charge. This board is crazy so glad I am never on here. And glad I am not going to any wedding that has a bunch of drunk people consuming 1/2 the drink you paid for then getting another one. And I will be happy knowing that when that drunk person left the wedding and crash his car I did not help him consume all that free booze..

Debbie/Karen do you like going to an ADULT party only to be served lemonade and water? I think not. Same with weddings.

Allysha - If you are making your guests pay for any part of the event, that is not hosting them properly!

@Debbie/Karen as soon as they told you how beautiful the wedding was, your guests went to each other and laughed at you behind your back.

Debbie/Karen, when you host people in your home do you charge them for a glass of wine or a drink?
