It is a lot nicer to just offer your guests beer or wine. Rather than make them pull out their wallets for liquor. I would suggest that you don't even offer the liquor at all. Just free beer and wine.

OH I could careless what people think of me honestly talk all they want what you fail to realize is the only person that matters on that day is my daughter and so long as she is happy and she will be they can talk all they want if booze is the reason you don't like a wedding because you had to pay for it yourself then do not go to the wedding stay home. the majority of people on this board are a lot younger than I am so I guess to you this crap matters to me IT DOES NOT...You can belly up to a bar on a Friday you can belly up to the bar at a wedding.. So done with this board and rude people who think BOOZE is the life of a wedding that makes it or breaks it GROW UP ...

Debbie/Karen - only your daughter matters? What about FH? Does he or she not matter? What kind of wedding are you having? Sounds fascinating.

"what you fail to realize is the only person that matters on that day is my daughter"

Her guests don't matter? The rest of your family doesn't matter? And you think we need to grow up.

Uhhhhhh, you're hosting guests. Yes it is/was your daughter's day but you're including the guests in that day as well. And yes, that means food, drinks, comfort etc. Not that hard to understand Debbie/y/whatever your name is.

@Debbie/Karen WOW. As soon as your daughter invites one single guest to her wedding, it ceases to be about her. Also, what about her FH? Does it get to be about him, too?

And seriously, what is with the assumption that people will get rip-roaring drunk if you provide alcohol? I've been to a dozen weddings since I turned 21 in which all guests managed to behave themselves with plentiful alcohol. What kind of people do you know/are you inviting? Maybe the problem is with them. A responsible bartender will know when to cut people off.

@Lauren B I was wondering the same thing!!!! Glad I am not a guest of that wedding. She is probably charging them for food as well, or just not providing any at all. Since I mean you don't have to provide anything to the guests since her daughter what matters. Screw the guests!!! What is the point in treating your guests?! Why would she want to provide them a nice meals and drinks. Remember her daughter is the only thing that matters! Guests don't mean a thing! No need for them to enjoy themselves!

Also if you don't provide alcohol to your guests....guess what? They are going to pregame before the wedding and probably get hammered and they are going to bring in flasks and secretly drink a whole bunch. Guess who is liable...YOU ARE! It is dangerous. Bartenders are there for a reason to cut off your guests. For legality reasons. The venue is liable for any drinks they serve. But if guests are drinking on their own, then you become liable.
