I went to a wedding where we had to wait on the MOH for like ten minutes to take a group pic because she was off shotgunning beers. It was a dry wedding. If you don't provide the alcohol, it just makes things worse.

Well the way I see it is if you can't host your guest well don't have a wedding.. Therefore don't make your guest pay for their own drinks! It's rude

Well. This was entertaining. I'm off to work where this ridiculousness will be used to educate my brides on what not to do...

I go away for a few days and this is the thread I come back to! So entertaining! Thank you! FWIW - Open bar and I don't really drink. It's for my guests.

Melissa - I am happy to hear you are going to host beer and wine.

Everyone else - it was rude to not properly host your guests. I am sorry you can have dinner but only water to drink..... ewwwwww

Debbie/Karen I am probably close to your age (I am 45). I will not give either of my boys money for a wedding, but you can bet they would NEVER think of having a cash bar. I raised them properly with MANNERS and proper hosting skills. The fact that you are perfectly fine with your children poorly hosting friends and family should embarrass you. Kinda shows the world that you taught your kids that other people aren't important and you raised your kids to be selfish and entitled.

Or just have no alcohol. That would sit better with me then having to pay for my own drinks.

You're not a cheapskate, you're being smart and trying not to go into debt over a one night thing. Maybe have house wine and beer available, then if people want mixed drinks they can pay for them, that way they have the option if they want to without going way overboard because they know it's free for them. Your wedding day is about you and your husband, not everyone else, there is no reason why you need to pay a ridiculous amount for people to drink.
