Inconsiderate Bride---don't be one!

You may or may not remember a thread about a "Hallo-wedding" FH and I were invited to on 9/29/15....its in the bride's parent's barn and guests are requested/encouraged to dress up in costume....we received the invitation about 3 weeks or so ago with a RSVP due date of June 1st (I don't get why so...

Last night I happen to glance at the invitation again....its a FRIDAY night wedding at FOUR PM and about 45 minutes from our house. Which means FH and I are going to have to leave work about 2 hours early to go home, let out the dogs and feed them, change and head out to be there on time. -_-

Not happy about this situation but mostly posting to break up this spam

    I'm having a Friday wedding. Ceremony starts at 4pm, reception at 6pm. I did this intentionally because I only wanted close family and friends at the ceremony, and FH has too big of a family to do this (inviting certain people and not others, and that was a whole can of worms I didn't want to get into). My thought process was the people we would have invited to the ceremony are going to take off for the ceremony anyways, and everyone else can come for dinner, drinks, and dancing.

    We had a Friday night wedding :x. I know people don't like them, others do. Thankfully it didn't really seem to alter the attendance at ours (other than a couple cousins couldn't come because of college finals) and no one complained....to our faces.

    If I had to pick, I would do a Friday night wedding again. Although 4 seems a little early. We did 5 and that was the earliest I would go.

    Do you know what you are dressing up as??

    The time of that wedding seems to be the least of the issues, lol.......

    but then, I hate dressing up. Except as a minister.

    @jillian....(love the new avatar!) I have no idea, but probably nothing due to start time and FH and I will already be on a time crunch to get there at 4pm...so I'll guess we'll just be party poopers!

    I apologize to anyone who is planning on doing this, but I don't get the costume wedding concept. That is putting too much on your guests and it's a wedding! So weird they called it "Hallowedding" I was thinking "Halo" wedding and wouldn't have made the Halloween connection in September.

    @futuremrsslav...that WOULD be hilarious.

    @SimpleSeamstress....it took me a minute too. FH and FSILs say "this is soooo her." This is turning into being a very expensive LOCAL wedding to attend....FH and I both loose out on a couple hours of pay. And then we're supposed to buy Halloween costumes AND give a gift...

    Not that I would ever do that, but if I "deducted" the cost for us to attend this wedding from her gift, she would end up owing US money!

    "I was thinking "Halo" wedding and wouldn't have made the Halloween connection in September."

    Not sure about anyone else- but I didn't read that as hallow.. I read this as HA-Lo... like the game Halo.

    Which is a totally different theme.

    Also- my thought is on why people perhaps do this is

    Weird time on a Friday = I sent my invites- did my due diligence to be fair and will get a lot of no's = less money for food.

    I would not be going if it was a costume wedding. No thanks! I only get that if your date is on halloween, and I still would not do it then.

    I feel ya on the inconsiderate bride thing though. I'm in a wedding next weekend and I was just told today that the rehearsal dinner is tuesday. I still know nothing about the wedding day, even what shoes to wear. Even though I've asked and offered to help. Sometimes ya just gotta suck it up I guess and thank god it isn't your day that's at stake!

    @Melissa....I am curious to see just how many people will dress up...I think its going to go one way or the other. Either lots of people will be dressed up or they wont...we shall see!

    I have a Friday night wedding at 4pm and it's not that uncommon around my town, otherwise I might agree. Most people jump at the opportunity to leave work a little earlier on a Friday to kick start the weekend. I've had people say they'll only make the reception because of work though and that's fine with me. I would say it was inconsiderate if it was Sunday night or another weeknight because people have to go to work the next day and can't fully enjoy themselves because of it.

    That's a doosie, Maltese. Have you picked out your costume? Smiley xd

    However....Oops! Guess I'm *that* bride.

    Friday wedding with a 3pm start. That is part of the reason I sent out Save the Dates, to let people know it was on a Friday afternoon.

    As Celia mentioned, if someone can't make it...they don't have to say yes. I have a lot of family that works in manufacturing and police/fire. They would have had to take off work for just about any day I picked out. If someone wants to come, they will take a half-day or leave a couple hours early. No one seemed to have heartburn about having a a legit excuse for leaving work early on a Friday at the end of May....

    This is super lame, but whenever there is something Halloween related and you have to dress up to participate (at places I've worked they let you dress up for Halloween, but if don't actually dress up you have to still wear business casual), I get a bag of smarties and tape them to jeans and a white tee and maybe throw on some nerdy glasses and I'm a 'smarty pants'...then I enjoy eating smarties all day haha.

    IMHO: If the wedding was *too inconvenient* for me it would have to be my best friend or my brother getting married for me to attend. I will not take off work for an acquaintance, co-worker, friend that has drifted apart if their wedding is not convenient. I am sure that brides who book during the week know this and will anticipate a low guest count.

    @kimberly...I'll see if I can make it. I may have plan that day -_-

    @GrayCat...I completely agree.

    @Jillian: another similar I've seen is attaching small (empty) cereal boxes to a white shirt and sticking plastic knives through the boxes....CEREAL KILLER!
