Inconsiderate Bride---don't be one!

You may or may not remember a thread about a "Hallo-wedding" FH and I were invited to on 9/29/15....its in the bride's parent's barn and guests are requested/encouraged to dress up in costume....we received the invitation about 3 weeks or so ago with a RSVP due date of June 1st (I don't get why so...

Last night I happen to glance at the invitation again....its a FRIDAY night wedding at FOUR PM and about 45 minutes from our house. Which means FH and I are going to have to leave work about 2 hours early to go home, let out the dogs and feed them, change and head out to be there on time. -_-

Not happy about this situation but mostly posting to break up this spam

I'm having a Friday wedding and its starting at 5:30pm. Oops! But the venue is 20 minutes from our house so most people may have to leave about 30 minutes early from work? Oh well! I'm not sorry. We saved a bunch and it was a special day for us. Plus our venue doesn't let us go past 12am.

@Jamie....I'm assuming that Halloween IS the theme of the wedding based on the insert/map that was sent with the invitation (sorry, its not the best photo)

My Friday evening Wedding has a 6pm start time. I originally wanted to start at 5pm but the Venue suggested that 6 would be a better time for all the reasons that you mentioned.

Our wedding if Friday at 5. The only guests that live in town though are immediate family who will most likely be off work that day anyway, and the bridal party. Our wedding date was important to us, and it allows us to have our wedding without listening to FH's family bitch about missing the Husker football game.

Val and Maltese you made me feel a little better. I just texted my MOH and go "I'm such a shit my wedding is at 5:30pm on a Friday". She also said its ok as long as its not before 5pm. PHEW!

People will be bused, fed, boozed and entertained. Plus there is a Margaritas after party! Deal with it Smiley tongue

We do holiday weekend weddings on Friday all the time; we have six this friday. I think part of the thought is that if people do things with their own families over the weekend, they can still do that and go to the wedding too.

One of my really good friends was married a couple of years ago on a Friday at 4pm...I didn't even think twice about taking a half day at work. She had a great turnout with 100 people, which is the number she wanted.

Val - Haha yes Margaritas, chips and salsa and quesadillas. Smiley smile

And if you want to go to weddings you can crash some of the ones I get invited too. You just have to come to MA/NH. Since FH and I have been together we have probably gone to about 4-5 weddings a year. 2 years ago we had 8 in one year. I love it/ hate it!

FH was at least nice enough to speak to his family about the 5 o'clock start time. They were fine with the Friday wedding because they'd look at driving/flying in on Thursday and back out on Sunday instead of coming in late Friday or early Saturday to turn around and leave Sunday. We'll probably take Saturday to recover and most of his family has planned on going to Lincoln to watch the Husker game in the morning. We're planning to do a large brunch with everyone Sunday morning before they leave.

I would probably be a little annoyed at the start time too, but they invited you, and you decide who is important enough for your time. If it is someone I am close to I wouldn't mind taking off work early at all to celebrate with them. I will say though, that whenever I see an early RSVP by date I automatically think they are planning for B list invitations - I could be totally wrong.

    @Jamielynn----hahahahahah!

My friends think I should reuse my wedding dress and some makeup to go as a zombie bride! When I was thinking it was on a Saturday I would have dressed up since I love Halloween, but now that its a Friday and I already see a time crunch going on, I doubt I will have much of a costume other than a pair of devil horns or something....part of me thought about recycling last years costume, but the make up took too long

@Jhazel....I didn't even think about that, but I did talk to her back in February or so and she said she was sending out invites soon because they wanted a count...for some reason I was hearing INVITES but thinking STDs....I don't really think there is a B-List only because of the location...like I said, no overhead costs to pay. But what I DO think is that they haven't really checked into or reserved catering and want to know how much they have to pay for vs how much they can afford before they start that (wasn't there a bride earlier this week doing the same!?!?)

@maltese you need to dress up as something better than devil horns. I'm sure we could all come up with something entertaining that won't take that long. Zombie bride would be perfect.

I went to a wedding last year in February on a Friday at 10 in the morning! It was not fun getting up super early in the cold to get ready & having to take time off work to do so. It was a good friend so I couldn't NOT go plus FH was a GM so I wouldn't of made him go alone. The invite said 10, it started at 10:30.. there was a breakfast buffet so naturally all the food was cold cause breakfast food barely stays hot for 5 minutes, an omelet station that took forever so I was done with my entire meal before my omelet came to the table, an iPod played music that the bride set up so it was all in order by year - 50s, 60s, 70s & so on. No variety whatsoever & nobody danced at all. I had 1 martini cause I was so bored that I had to drink something & it was nasty. Needless to say, we left by 12:30. So, I took the whole day off for a measley two hours.

@Maltese - One question. Did you make a typo in the wedding date? The reason I ask is a) September is really early for a Halloween wedding (IMO). My friend had a Halloween wedding, but it was like two days before Halloween, so that was a little more acceptable. Also, b) 9/29/15 is a Tuesday. (I know this, because it's my birthday.)

    Just curious. Smiley smile

@Marisslee....I have a nagging feeling that is what is going on here and it wont actually start till 4:30 or 5pm AND that it is going to be done intentionally

To each their own wedding....but it's odd to me that they chose a 4pm wedding for a Halloween theme where people will be dressed up (in September, but I digress). Isn't Halloween and dress-up usually for night time??
