I wish I never bought a wedding planner binder

Kayla, on February 5, 2013 at 7:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 34

I was suckered in when I first got engaged went down to Barnes & Noble and purchased one of those fancy pink wedding binders. Sure there's a lot of good information in it but I find looking on here to be more "real" with information that everybody on here is going through. I've been adding my own divider tabs and and moving around pages or taking some out. I'm finding that I took out almost of the information pages that came with. I wish I would have started out with a cheap empty binder and filled it with information that fits my wedding. I'm ok with the binder now that I've made it my own. Has anybody else purchased the binder and didn't end up using it?

I did and did the exact same thing you did. I now have a binder that has all of my information (swatches, contact info, contracts, inspirations, emails, copies of checks etc.) I looked at the Barnes & Noble binder for about a month and then gave it away.

I bought a plain binder, and have dividers and page protectors from the dollar store. Don't have too much in it yet, really only want to use it to keep my contracts and contact information in it. Everything else is Pinterest'd.

I bought my sister a wedding planning binder when she got engaged.. after looking through it with her, I realized it had a lot of useless information in there :-/ She still used it overall for the organization.. but when we got engaged, FH took me to Target and I got a shiny new binder and divider tabs and went to work! Smiley smile With as much time and effort as we put into this process, it only makes sense to make your own system that will work for you!!

I have a normal 3 ring, nothing fancy, just to hold important docs and contracts. With computers and Internet I dont think it serves its purpose as it once did with brides to be.

Nicole C. & Beth G. do what most of these smart brides did is buy your own binder and fill it from there.

So glad I'm not the only one but egh oh well. I've had so much fun putting together the Honeymoon binder which is organized to the max.

I got a binder from there too, I wrote in a ton of stuff and jammed in papers that I wanted to hang on to.... now all my important stuff is in a shoe box on my dresser next to it lol. I guess I like boxes more than binders

I put together a notebook with the items I needed, for my daughters wedding. It cost me a whopping $5 for the binder and dividers.

It is nice to have information in one place and portable. But I do not see the value of spending a lot of money on one.

I spent $60 on a binder from Hallmark, and at first i loved it but now i hate it. The rings arent big enough for what i need. And the majority of the preprinted pages are about year one of the marriage, not the wedding. it sucks.

I never had a binder at all. I kept everything on either my wedding planning site or an Excel spreadsheet.

I did the whole wedding planning binder thing for a while but then I decided that I was going to invest in a laptop and a regular binder with dividers. I plan on handing the divider to my mother in law the day of because she is my day of planner person. she choose that roll she doesn't like to be around a lot of people so I said ok. I also end up getting lazy and throwing stuff into my binder or in my laptop case and not looking at it for a while. I say a computer with excel the internet and word as well as a binder with dividers is the way to go because you can download and print so much stuff off the internet now that those premade binders aren't worth it at all

I got a wedding planning diary book given to me, and I don't use it at all apart from storing paper in. I use Wedding wire and pinterest for everything.

I have a regular binder with dividers, sheet protectors, business card holder, and a pen/pencil pouch in it. I use it to hold my printed guest list (have the real one on an excel spread sheet), contracts, photo ideas, receipts, and "inspiration pics". I looked at the store bought ones and they all had a lot of useless crap.

I like mine. I like using online/excel but sometimes it's better for me to see on paper. I specifically got the one with rings that open so I could customize.

Had one that I got for $1 at a yard sale, took out the pages that mattered, and made my own. I keep our receipts, contracts, contacts, ideas, etc in there. I have not started a spreadsheet yet, b/c we are still working on the guest list.

My binder was actually a gift from the friends who are family. :-) Just after FH and I got engaged my friend Lisa and I went to dinner and she presented me with a binder that she and the kids made. (Her daughter is my Junior Bridesmaid.) They even gave me extra paper, inserts, sheet protectors, and dividers so I could add additional printouts to customize it.

Here's a picture of it. I actually posted this picture on FB last week and said that it travels everywhere with me! :-)

I just bought a folder...one for honeymoon and one for wedding. I print contracts or travel reservations and keep them in the appropriate folders.
