I was approved to take my vacation time in December for the wedding. Well we are very short staffed and our third shift staff quit. No notice. So my supervisor calls to tell me the days I took off in December will probably not be covered. I work every day. I haven't had a day off since gosh I don't even know. Has this happened to anyone?

    Hold on...your supervisor "asked around" and said "No one would cover it" (those shifts)...so if they can refuse, why can't you??? Just say NO. Sorry, NO. And I agree with everyone saying you need a lawyer. This is not right.

    Your supervisor should step up and work that day. My manager ended up doing this about a week ago when no one could answer the phone and she got an idea of what it feels like to be in our shoes. Really opened her eyes.

    If she refuses to give you your time off, I say start looking for a new job, and put your two weeks in with your quit date 5 days before your wedding. That way you wont have to work or worry about work. I had a job that wasn't going to let me have my high school graduation off, so I quit.

    Whats your background in? I was working in mental health as a behavioral counselor and working all sorts of crazy hours and never, ever getting to see FH. I was tired all the time! I ended up working for my local regional center and I am getting to do some great work, getting paid decently enough and work 8:30-5. Something to think about! ABA programs as well are always hiring and the hours are not as crazy.

    Yea, they would have to be financially responsible if they make you miss your wedding. They better get on the ball and hire some replacements!

    HR will be on speed dial real fast. I hope you have a union to fight with you because something does not seem right. There is no way in hell I will be working on my wedding day.

    You need to set some boundaries and commit in every aspect of your employment.

    ETA : the last part of my comment makes no sense. What I meant was set boundaries and let those at work know you are committed to them. Like requesting your WEDDING DAY off, getting it approved and then having them go back on it. That's insane. Stand your ground ... and find another place of employment. It's unfathomable that this is even happening.

    I'm with@MeetTheBrowns I would be looking for another job! Once your time is approved there's no taking it back. I would filing a complaint with the department of labor and the HR department.

    I'm sorry but in my state the limit is either 14 or 16 hours before you become a walking safety hazard (unless you work something like 24 on 48 off). Definitely some kind of violation here.

    Woah! I'd be pissed! I vote just not showing up. How can they make you come to work knowing you're getting married!? I would not want to work for a company who treats employees like that. I'd either start looking for a new job or just take the consequences of not going to work those days.

    Start keeping track of all of your hours. Keep a daily log and lawyer up. Not only is it illegal it is SO unsafe for your patients. When you are exhausted like you are, there is no way you can perform your job up to standards.

    I am so sorry this is happening to you and extremely pissed on your behalf! Contact HR, contact a lawyer, and start looking for another job! That's bullshit. I'm scared this is going to happen to my FH (he never gets a day off and works 12 hours each day). Please start looking for another job and contact HR immediately

    This is one of my biggest fears lol. I feel like any decent human being would not make you work if they understood you needed to be off for your own wedding. Somebody else would just have to work and suck it up. Some day they'll need time off for something of their own importance. I'd also tell them "well I guess you'll be covering all my vendor fees for me then."

    Yeah this is SOOO not your problem that they can't get your shifts covered. You requested them, they approved it. It's settled. It's your WEDDING DAY! Lol like just no.

    I'd take the write up/ firing and then sue their ass

    I would tell my boss that since I'm not coming to work on the day that I was approved to take off, I am easily staying quite calm.

    If you have the ability to, I hope you're looking for a new job. And I would definitely just not show up on your wedding day, and make sure to have the written approval of your vacation time available. I also agree with others that you should see what you can do about this legally if you need to, because your working conditions don't sound 100% appropriate.

    Honestly I would point out that they cannot revoke already approved time off and you are not working on your wedding day period. Sometimes you have to go on the offensive with people like that. I might also mention that you're consulting an attorney.
