I may have to work on my wedding day

I was approved to take my vacation time in December for the wedding. Well we are very short staffed and our third shift staff quit. No notice. So my supervisor calls to tell me the days I took off in December will probably not be covered. I work every day. I haven't had a day off since gosh I don't...

Or don't tell her at all and call out sick...

Legally I don't think she can penalize you for that.

Lol I couldn't even imagine! I'm sorry they even put you in that circumstance, but to hell with them that's your wedding day and they can sure take care of it for one day....

Just remember when you talk to your boss that you have the leverage since they are already short staffed. Either they give you the days off, or you walk. Frankly, I'd take it as a sign and quit anyway. Definitely doesn't sound worth it!

Call out. Don't go in. It's your wedding. That's bullshit.

You need an attorney. Screw quitting and moving on, making it someone else's problem. Get a lawyer and get this nonsense stopped.

@Meggles what region of TN are you in? Middle, east, west?

I know that's a weird question but I used to work for a company in east tn that would pull these same stunts ALL the time... notice that I used to work there. Lol

Update: She text me saying she will be working on December's schedule in two weeks and for me to stay calm.

I work in mental health too and I had to find a new job because a new supervisor started and decided I couldn't get my wedding approved still. I found a better job after struggling with the idea of leaving and I'm so glad I did. If they value you as an employee, they will treat you as such and it doesn't sound like they do.

I'm going through a similar situation and I live about 20 from Nashville. I would go to HR and once they approve the time off it's their issue. My problem is they're prolonging the time I've put in and I'm giving them six months advance notice. If I don't get off I'm LEAVING and they will have to deal with yet another employee quitting on them!

I can't imagine working for such a toxic sounding company. If they didn't let me have off for a wedding, a year in advance, I would quit. No second thought.

If your days off are approved it is their responsibility to schedule people. Her asking around and people not volunteering isn't acceptable. She just needs to schedule them. Not even touching the other labor violations...

Absolutely do not work on your wedding day. They approved that time off and where I work once you're approved there's no take backs! No wonder that company has been so short staffed! Doesn't sound like a place that values their employees. I would talk to HR and if they won't do anything then just call off sick. To be honest this would be enough to make me quit a few days before the wedding.

And then what if you can't get your honeymoon off??

They wouldn't like it if you were that unreliable with them!! It's a two way street and they need to have your trust too, which at this point if it were me I would not trust them. I'd tell them IF you have not hired anyone by my wedding day then either YOU (my supe) is working OR I'm getting fired because I AM NOT COMING IN> That's it. Ultimatum, an I'd start looking for a new job. With all the other bullshit, this job would NOT cost me my wedding.... fuck that!
