I may have to work on my wedding day

I was approved to take my vacation time in December for the wedding. Well we are very short staffed and our third shift staff quit. No notice. So my supervisor calls to tell me the days I took off in December will probably not be covered. I work every day. I haven't had a day off since gosh I don't...

I worked in the same field for 2 years. And after getting the crap beat out of me every day for months, FH told me to quit. But in Washington it is illegal to work more than 16 hours without a 10 hour period between shifts.

    I'm sorry but what?

How can you possibly be working mostly 22 hour shifts daily? Do you live there and sleep for 2 hours

First off I work in the same field as you do. I am a lead at a ISL home . It really scares me this will happen to me but I already decided that I will threaten to quit if they try that on me. Second working more than 16 hours in a day is actually illegal.

That can happen but it is ridiculous. I would talk to your boss and explain your situation - see if they can hire a temp, someone picks up overtime etc. But in the end, I've seen places where this has happened and it sucks

@Brittany FH has begged me to quit. I've been beat up many times. He and I are planning a baby next year and he has asked if he can get me pregnant now because if I was pregnant with his baby he will have a say and I will no longer work here. Explained to him that's not how it works. We are told it's 4 hours here. I wish it could be 10 hours. That's in Tennessee.

@ChocolatierKT I work original 2nd shift which is 3-11 daily but on Fridays I work 18 hours and 12 on Saturday. 2 Saturdays a month I do work 22 hours because a staff member can't come in till noon.

This is a labor violation. Contact a labor lawyer ASAP.

How many hours does your supervisor work? She needs to cover you. My job only has between 8-10 employees total , so when why person calls out, it's hard to cover. However, as a Manager it's her job to hire people if she's short staff. Good Luck to you !

I switched to just caregiving for young children with autism. I am getting paid more now... and I haven't been beat up since.

It sounds like your boss is gonna be up a creek without a paddle. You can't pull takesies backsies on someone's vacation time because you can't keep a staff.

Either you're exaggerating your ass off or your company is in serious labor law violation. One or the other. If you're telling the truth, do something about it. Don't be a doormat.

@Unawarepandabear I have been searching. So far, nothing. Financial situation with me working these hours and FH working 2 full time jobs I mean it's not too bad but the OT itself is what paid for the wedding and I am grateful for it. But never having a day off has gotten old.

@Elizabeth I wish I was lying. I never see my daughter or FH. Snowdays are the worst. There is a center the clients go to daily and the staff there is supposed to work the homes. They do not. I lived here this past winter.

I'm sorry but you NEED a new job. Clearly it's a terrible work environment or all of your coworker's wouldn't be quitting. If enough people leave, they'll have to get their shit together and change something.
