I don't want a stupid cake.

Koch Bride, on March 24, 2014 at 12:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 49

Sorry. This is me venting it out. I don't want a wedding cake.

I've never been a big fan of cakes. My favorite desserts would be cookies, fruit tarts or pie. Our wedding already is having a massive amount of food and our tasting was seriously off the chain. We are serving 5 butlered hors d'oeuvres, having one antipasti station and one Philly pretzel station, and then serving salad and entrees. For dessert, we guests will be given warm cookies and a shot glass with chocolate milk shake since our wedding falls on National Milk Shake day. Also, we are having 2 full service bars and one signature bar whipping up mojitos.

My mom is telling me that we have to have a wedding cake. I just feel like we're having so much that nobody is going to miss it. I just feel like it will be such a waste. Nobody is going to NEED cake. As far as cookies go, we're serving chocolate chip, snickerdoodles and double chocolate chip. Is anyone else not doing a cake??

We are doing cupcakes, and having a cheesecake to cut.

Maybe get a pie for you two to cut? Maybe that is why your mom is insisting on having a cake.

IDK what it is about the cake cutting tradition and moms being so insistent about it.

You never HAVE to do anything that you don't want to do. I think the cake provides for a great moment with the photographer, and people will notice if you don't do it. Maybe you could do a small cake (just the top tier for example) just to do the cutting but not to feed to people? In the end, it's up to you and your FI

Aw, Mom, she gave in to the purple dresses, I bet she warms up to this too.

Or....just get a small cake and have it decorated it "Thanks, Mom" and brought out to her at the reception Smiley smile

Your desserts sound awesome and will be plenty. But when I opened this, the first thing this fat kid thought was "I'll eat your stupid cake!"

I didn't want a cake. We ordered a couple hundred donuts of different varieties. My aunt insisted on a cake to cut, so she made a small one, but I don't think anyone ate any of it. Cake vs. Donuts. Donuts won.

I'm not having a cake Smiley smile We are having cupcakes, a candy bar, and cookies. We're not doing the ceremonial cake-cutting, either. He can feed me a cupcake if he is so inclined Smiley smile

Tina BoBina she might not relent on this!

I guess I'm just worried that if we do the cake cutting thing and don't serve cake then people will be like, "Hmm, where is my cake?". I'd rather just bring out a plate of the cookies and we'll feed each others though and then do our milk shake shot instead of the whole cake cutting thing.

We had a sheet cake from Safeway and some cookies that MIL made. Dessert doesn't have to be over the top - people just want to eat it, not gawk at it!

I think you could have fun with skipping the cake - you could always break a cookie in half and share it instead of cutting a cake. Bonus points if you take the pic while holding a Cookie Monster doll.

Maybe you can have a small cookie cake to cut into. She might want that cakecutting moment. Or she might be worried that people won't realize that there isn't cake. If you cut a cookie cake then she gets that moment and ppl understand that their cookies are the cake and you can have something delicious to freeze and eat on your 1 yr anniversary. If cookie cakes freeze well, I don't even know if they do or not.

Seriously though.... can I come to your wedding?

We're only having a 4 inch cake so that we can have something to cut. It cost us 20 dollars lol.

Maybe put some cookies and other things you like with the Milkshake bar? I feel like that should be enough sweet for people.

We have Insomnia here at Carolina, but I have never eaten any. Apparently they will deliver until 3am or later.

Guests won't be looking for cake, especially if you have other sweets. More than half of the weddings I go to, I don't like the cake flavor, so I just pass anyway.

No cake here. Neither of us like it. We love donuts, so that's what we're doing. We plan on a donut cutting.

I think your set up sounds awesome. I love the shot.

I think feeding each other cookies is fine-- definitely don't have a small cake that won't feed everyone-- I never understood why that was better than just not having cake.

Truthfully, people WILL notice that there's no cake. They may be a little sad, but they aren't going to hate you for it.

I want cupcakes (not a real cake fan normally) but I am letting FH decide if he wants a cake or not. I might just ask my mom to make a cake. It might not be fancy like ordering a cake but I love my mom's cakes and it will save money. I guess it depends on how many people we have coming. Although there is a place close to my mom that my sister says makes great cakes called Danielle's Tastebud Tickler I want to order from them just because of the name.

GameCox seriously order Insomnia. It will change your life.

Thanks guys for letting me know that you'd want to come! If we have a lot of no's on the RSVPs, I'll send some your way!

I just feel like having a small cake that doesn't serve everyone would be a waste as opposed to just not having one.
