How much did you spend on your wedding jewelry?

Lori, on February 16, 2013 at 10:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

This was just something I was thinking about last night. I was previously engaged, and this was back when my mom was able to help pay for wedding stuff, and she took me jewelry shopping and we ended up spending almost $4000 for necklace, bracelet, and two pairs of earrings. Ridiculous I know! I knew in my head how frivolous it was to spend that much on something like that, but my mom had no objection in the world so I just went for it. And then when that engagement fell apart we tried to sell it, with no luck. I ended up having to pawn it and only got back $1800. So what is a more realistic amount to spend? I'm trying to get a budget in my head and this is one thing I'm unsure of. IDK if I could set the budget at $500 or $100...all I know is I definately am not going to be so frivolous this time...but I still want to look nice ya know?

What did you ladies pay for jewelry? What kind of materials? Real or fake? Just curuious.

Thanks!

Most of my jewelry is family heirlooms - pearl necklace that we wrap as a bracelet, pendant, brooch for bouquet, my great grandmother and great great grandmothers wedding rings, and diamond studs. The only jewelry we are paying for is my e-ring (by fh of course), wedding band (also by fh), and a pair of earings for my first set of holes. I am planning on going to Dustees (which is like a Claire's/Icing/Charming Charlies/etc) and getting a cheap pair. Before I knew about the heirloom jewelry, I had alrady decided there was no way I would spend more than $100.00. I refuse to spend money on stuff for one day, but some ladies think otherwise. My day-of splurge for myself is a bottle of really really nice perfume. One that I only wear on the wedding day and on anniversaries.

Thats a really nice thing that you get to wear all of your heirloom jewelry. Unfortunately my family has no nice stuff lol or jewelry at all really. I've seen how at some of the "not so fancy" places you can buy jewelry (like khols, for example) they sell nice sterling silver stuff with the fake diamonds...I'd have to look at this stuff to know if it would even be worth it over something super cheap, but it's one idea I had. It would still be paying like $200 for a necklace doing it that way though, so I don't know.

Any brides out there buy the super cheap stuff? Did you end up happy with it and feeling like it looked good?

I spent maybe $50 or $60 on a pair of earrings and a bracelet. Now when I'm looking at my wedding pics, I can barely notice them. Sure, they're accessories and they complete the look, but nothing that would be worth spending any substantial amount of money on.

I'm curious, what did you have for 4K?

I plan on spending well under 100.00. Fake but very nice looking. I am going to check out places like TJMaxx and Ross that sell nice name brand jewelry for super inexpensive.

There is no need to spend a ton of money.

    Heirlooms are nice Smiley smile

The 4K included a necklace, bracelet, and 2 pairs of earrings. They were even on clearance! Well the necklace and the bracelet were...I do miss that necklace though. It was such a unique piece of jewelry. I just knew that I wouldn't be able to make myself wear it when it came from a broken engagement...so selling it was really the option that made the most sense.

I just bought my jewelry yesterday and I spent about $308 and some change for a bracelet and a pair of earrings... And i love them. I got them at Nordstroms and they're by Nadri. In my budgey spreadsheet I had put it down as $300 so I was only $8 over my estimate yay!

I am very lucky to have it all passed down - another option in going to JC Penney or Khols when they have the buy one get one free, or half off sales.

In the past I have ordered from http://www.limogesjewelry.com/ and everything I got from there was of good quality and looked nice. Definitely not everyday wear, but nice for a special occasion.

@ Mrs. S. They were 14k gold and real diamonds...nice stuff yeah but I don't know what possessed me to allow my mom to buy them lol

I guess that's a good point that after the wedding you'll hardly even notice you were wearing jewelry...although I would like to be able to pass down my wedding jewelry to my (future) daughter one day.

Oh, that explains the price tag :-) But it must have been nice!

I wouldn't worry too much about passing it on to your daughter, unless you have one. Choose something that you see value in and that you like.

So heres an additional question: What did you ladies do with the jewelry after the wedding? Do you wear it ever? Is it just sitting in a jewelry box? just curious.

My bracelet cost about $90 - the earrings were $45. Both came from Etsy.

Sitting in the jewelry box. It's been almost a year and a half. It's a bit too flashy and sparkly for everyday use, even if it's all fake.

My budget is $100 and I found a bracelet that went perfect with my dress very simple with just enough crystals to give my wrist a little bling. I spent $30 on it. I plan on wearing studs or small "diamond" hoops and can get them at a stand in the mall for under $40. I love my necklace FH got me for christmas so I'll probably wear that. I'm not huge into jewelry so I find it hard to bring myself to spend money on it lol If I do go over the $100 it wil be something I'll wear every day.

My mom will be lending me the jewelry that she wore on her wedding day. If I had to purchase it, I would want to spend no more than $100 because I doubt I'd ever wear that jewelry again, unless I bought one simple, special piece.

My wedding jewelry (necklace and 2 pairs of earrings since I couldn't decide) cost a little less than $150. My mom purchased them for me as she was eager to have something to be able to buy me as a more personal gift for the wedding. So when I decided on what I wanted, she jumped to buy them for me.

They came from a seller on Etsy. Silver, crystals and Swarovski pearls, but very pretty. They've been sitting in their bag since the wedding and I don't think I'll have another reason to wear them anytime soon, at least not the necklace. The earrings could be re-worn, I suppose.
