A good range is just whatever you can afford, it varies greatly by area and what's included. Some people spend $1,000, some spend more than $5,000.

$1800 for 8 hours. We got $200 off because we already did an engagement shoot.

You're going to get answers all over the place. Like Melissa said, a good range is what you can afford and what works with your budget.

The prices are going to vary based on location, experience and what is included in the package. You should research the photographers in your area, gather quotes and packages, pump that info into an Excel spreadsheet and do your comparisons.

My venue recommended a free lance photographer who works for a good company. I will have 8hrs and all rights to every photo for $695.... be sure to ask around!

This i highly regional and based on talent. In my area, ****

I have seen the people cheaper and I'd never recommend them.

I live in Austin and paid $5,800 for 2 photographers and a videographer for 8 hours. I paid for this myself because I was set on using this specific team.

There is no set value or range, and every couple needs to decide what their splurge items are. For most, it's photography. Sure, you can get 2 photographers all day for under $1000.00....two of those goofs don't equal one really good one. Usually the reason they are cheap reveals itself quickly.

Me personally, I average between $2500-$4500 with album, and 7 and 9 hour includes engagement photos. Photography is documentary style. If you value photography as your splurge item, spend what you have to, in order to find that photographer match whose work makes you cry happy tears. Going cheaper and justifying it, that generally is a decision that comes with regret. One time purchase. You can't put a price tag on memories. Good ones aren't cheap...go with those whose work you love and will provide a hassle free experience.

    Not enough.

I hired a friend, who was a wedding photographer (he has since passed away). I paid him his regular rate, so not calling in a favor or hiring a friend who didn't know what they were doing.

He had been a photographer and many, many events that I had put on over the years.

The photos, while okay, were nothing special. They were not up to date and, well, boring.

I should have hired another friend, also a pro, for about half again as much. Oh well.
