That's got to come in handy! Already having the process down!

I'm also an accountant and I thought I'd done the same. But the more I dig into the process the more I realize I missed something that feels vital and needs to be added.

So I'm working really hard to get debt free before the wedding, and maintain that with all the wedding costs. Starting our marriage without any extra financial burdens is the ultimate goal! As such I originally budgeted for $6500 because that's what I would be able to save by Dec 2019 after paying off all my debts (Student loans, car, credit cards, etc.) Course, last weekend I went to a wedding showcase and I saw so many great lovely concepts/idea's and I wanted to nearly add them all. Looking at the cost of those things however nearly made me cry. It would double my initial plan!!! Course to add to that crazy "I want it all" feeling, my FH recently lost his job. Which is putting us seriously behind the debt free/wedding savings plan. So it's been difficult. My budget wasn't really based on wedding costs for the area. Just an ideal number. And I'm struggling to make all the ideal's fit together.

I guess I can't really answer this question because I started out not having a clear budget - I had NO idea how expensive weddings can get! Once I got a better picture, it became clear that if we wanted our dream wedding, we would need to spend more than I had hoped! Since then, I'd say the budget has only changed twice as we've researched and priced things. I think our current budget is more than doable, so it shouldn't (hopefully) change again!

Well we didn't set a budget I just started adding up estimated prices and came up with a budget of $20,000 and now we want to cut that in half but I'm not sure how since we are getting a handful of things completely for free.

We stuck to our wedding venue budget, but decided to increase our budget for a good photographer.

None, I am doing the decor and have a great friend who is doing our photography. And using my sisters and their husbands to do DJ, bartender, etc. Its a small very intimate wedding and I want to capture the real moments, not waste time being told what to do and how to pose.

It really does help to have a budget because it gives you an idea of what is possible and what is impossible. I'm talking about the big stuff like the reception venue. That's the most expensive part of a wedding. So far we're okay. Two of my vendors: my photographers and my videographer gave me a discount for paying in cash. Normally, people would think this is shady, but I know where they both live and they have great reviews. That said, if I didn't have a budget, I wouldn't have been able to have had that money lying around to make a deal.
I have changed it almost every time I've gotten something for less that what I budgeted. That money usually gets funneled to my attire and accessories.

We've never really had a budget to go off of. Just paying on things here and there.

Too many times lol! I tried not to set a amount because I don’t like to spend money and I’m good at talking myself out of stuff. I knew if I were to set an amount I would tell myself that’s crazy just go to the court house lol.

Just once. We were going to do something really small so we set an initial budget. But then our plans and things changed, the wedding got bigger, so we figured out what we could spend and upped it. But it hasn’t changed since.

We didn’t set a hard budget; just incorporating things in a spreadsheet as we go and trying to be reasonable about what and where we’re spending our money. We’ve also tried to pay off vendors in real time, instead of waiting for our wedding final payments in August which I’ve really appreciated versus seeing a steep depletion of funds right before or during the wedding.
