If you are planning on doing speeches/toasts, how many people will give one? Who all is going to give a speech at your reception?

We are letting all the important people give speeches if they want, both moms and dads and any of the bridal party if they want and my fiancé kind of wants to leave the floor open just for a bit to see if anyone else wants to say anything. He has a big family and a lot of them have seen our relationship from the very beginning and I personally love toasts and speeches so I don't mind at all!

We are just doing two toasts, one from the bride's side (my cousin), and one from the groom's side (his best friend).

This has been quite the conversation with FH and myself. We have friends and family members who are very active in charity work and are used to public speaking. We knew immediately that we could not have an open mic for speeches, because they could go on all evening! Haha We still haven’t made a final decision on who will be speaking, but we know either him or myself will be doing a quick thank you speech for the two of us. Then possibly best man, maid of honor, and my father. We are definitely going to put a two minute time limit on everyone though LOL

We hadn't thought about them until my MOH said: "Oh gosh, I need to start getting my speech written!" 😂 So def. will be giving one, and we might ask my mom to give one. Our officiant who's actually our close friend who's getting ordained for our wedding, might give a speech as well. FH's dad only gave a speech at one son's wedding (there's 4 lol), and it was only because the bride's dad gave one and he didn't want his son to feel left out lol. So not sure if he'll be giving one or not! He might though since FH is the baby and last of 4 kids to be married!

Very cool that you're leaving the floor open for anyone who wants to say something! It sounds like there are a lot of people who would likely be interested in giving a toast about your relationship from their perspective.

We both spoke briefly to thank and welcome people, then after dinner my dad spoke for a minute, then BM and MOH spoke for a minute. They were all very short!

Seems like a good number, and from people who are closest to the bride and groom! Are you limiting the amount of time each speech can take? Or letting it take however long they'd like, since there aren't too many?

I could definitely understand how too many speeches would take up a lot of the reception time! Setting a time limit isn't a bad idea either - speeches can be fun, but as a guest, it can feel long and drawn out if they start taking up too much time lol, the time limit will help get to the dancing/socializing part sooner. I like that you or your fiance will give a "thank you" speech, I'm sure your guests will love hearing it from you!

One. FH will thank everyone for coming and I’m sure explain how lucky he is to be marrying a goddess among women, and that’s it.

I haven't given this much thought yet but I would assume we would have the following give a speech:

    Bestman

    Matron of Honor

    Our Mothers

    and of course us.

We're having my MOH (My cousin), and my FH's two best men (His Older Brother's) give a speech.

We may also say something just thanking our guests for coming and celebrating, thinking of doing this right before we open the dance floor.

I asked my mom if she wanted to say something, she declined, my dad is a man of few words so I know he wont. We're not going to offer my FIL's to speak, mainly because we feel it will be his mom who wants to say something and she still has yet to cut FH off the cord, so it may be a little creepy whatever she says

The only speeches at my wedding are most likely just going to be the best man and matron of honor. My FH and I will probably have a speech as well to thank everyone for attending and being a part of our special day. His parents aren't probably going to speak, but my dad just might.

Your MOH still has plenty of time to write her speech, though probably a smart idea for her to start working on it early lol! Sounds like a great variety of people to speak at the wedding from all different perspectives. Are you going to set a time limit for each one? Or let them speak however long they'd like?

That would be a great choice of words for your fiance to include in his speech, lol! My fiance will also be the one to give the "thank you" speech at our wedding, I'm definitely not a fan of public speaking!

No speeches for us. We're going to thank everyone for coming and then let everyone eat/dance/mingle!

He talks to groups for a living and I turn bright red in any meeting I have to say even two words. I am NOT giving any kind of speech! I’ll thank everyone one on one.

We had 4 speeches. Each of our fathers, the MOH, and the best man. We asked them to keep their speeches on the shorter side! My husband and I then gave a really quick thank you speech later on right after the cake cutting.
