If you are planning on doing speeches/toasts, how many people will give one? Who all is going to give a speech at your reception?

Totally makes sense! I think 2 minutes each is the perfect amount of time!

I was thinking only the Best Man and Man of Honor (my brother), but I like the idea of other important people being able to speak if they wanted to.

Very cool! I think 4 is a good number for speeches. And sounds like a good balance of friends and family members to do the speeches as well!

I think 6 speakers would be a good number to cap it at! The 2-minute time limit will also help keep everything from taking too much time from the rest of the reception. Very cool that there are so many people who would love to speak at your wedding!

Very cool! Glad it all went smoothly! 2 minutes initially doesn't sound like a long time, but it is definitely plenty of time for a speech.

We are doing open speeches! Our dinner is going to be a "feast style" with all of our friends and family at two long tables, side by side. My vision is allowing whomever to get up and make a toast/speech. Some people HATE speeches, but I think it will be so fun to have people who want to get up and speak during dinner!

Thank You! I'm intrigued to see what all they have to say. My family likes to joke that I was picky before my fiance came along so I know they'll make comments about that in their speeches.

I totally understand your parents not being comfortable speaking in front of a group of people! I am the same way, so my fiance will be the one to give our thank you speech lol. Very cool that you have other people to step in for your parents to give a speech! Are you and your fiance both planning to give the thank you speech? Or just one of you?

I love the idea of doing the speeches at the rehearsal dinner! That way, people close to you can still toast to you, but you don't have to take time out of the reception for it, and guests can start dancing sooner. The thank you speech at the reception is always appreciated by guests! Are you both planning to give a thank you speech?

I like that you're opening up the speeches to whoever would like to say something! Also a smart idea to limit them to during dinner only, so they don't run too long into the reception.

That seems like an ideal number of speeches! Are you setting a time limit for each one? Or letting them speak for however long they would like?

That makes sense! I also like the idea of doing the speeches during dinner, since guests can eat and listen at the same time. Also seems like it would save more time for dancing later on!

The thank you speech is definitely a great way to ensure that all guests feel appreciated! Whenever I've been a guest at weddings, I've always enjoyed hearing either the bride or groom speak. Looks like you still have a couple months to figure out speeches, so you've got some time!

Those would both be very meaningful options for speeches at your wedding! And if it's just those two speaking, you probably wouldn't even need to set a time limit for each one either.

Definitely! You can have however many people talk, but if you do have quite a bit of people that want to say a little something something then make sure they have a time limit. There was one wedding I went to and the bride and groom had so many people talk, and they didn't limit on how long. Therefore, their guests started to loose interests by half way through the speeches. They started scrolling on their phones, walked outside of the venue with their drinks to socialize, etc. Smiley ups So, just keep that in mind for those that do want to give speeches haha.

That sounds like a very fun dinner setup! I don't think I've ever seen that done before. I like that you're opening the floor to whoever wants to speak! Are you going to make an announcement ahead of time so that guests know they can give a speech if interested?

I'm honestly not sure! I've kind of talked about it by word of mouth to some of the guests who will be there, but I probably should have an announcement of some kind made so people will be prepared if they wanted to speak! Good point!
