If you are planning on doing speeches/toasts, how many people will give one? Who all is going to give a speech at your reception?

That’s what I told her too haha, plenty of time! I think we’re going to say 2min tops lol. We don’t want super long speeches to take up dinner time!

We had 4, but made sure they were all pretty short!!

My dad did a quick welcome speech, then my father-in-law (also the best man) gave a speech. We also had the MOH and my husband's best friend (one of the groomsmen) do quick toasts! 🥂

I think that's a good list! Are you both giving a thank you speech? Or just one of you?

We're still working on it but so far we know our MOH and Best Man will each have a speech and that our parents probably won't. I have 8 brothers and I'm sure at least 2 of them will want to say something and probably my bridesmaids so we'll limit anyone additional to 2 minutes. I believe we'll cap it at 6 people speaking, tops.

    We had my
Father in law, my bio dad, moh, man of honor, a family friend and my step-dad. We were suppose to have my brother in law but he didn’t want to. It went smoothly and 2 min was more than enough for everyone.

I think right before the dance floor opens is the perfect time to do a thank you speech! And that makes sense about your FILs - even if they do give a speech, you can always ask your DJ ahead of time to be prepared to cut the sound from the microphone if a speech starts to go wrong.

At this moment, its my MOH and the Best Man. I know it's traditional for the bride's parents to speak. However, my parents are super reserved and not comfortable speaking so they won't be doing it. The officiant and FHs step dad might be doing a speech. And FH and I will do a quick thank you one.

The bride and groom only at the reception, a "welcome and thank you for coming speech", with a couples jokes in it, as soon as all the guests are seated.

But we're having an open mic at the reharsal dinner because i know my sisters, they will want to give a toast (and a roast too 😛).

As guests we both dislike speeches given by people other than the newlyweds. I even stand up and go elsewhere when they are giving them coz they are cringey to us and we don't care about their parents,MOH,bestman/bestwoman, wedding party members. We only care about the newlyweds, honestly.

Plus all these speeches are similar , we always hear the same lines, same jokes, same cheesy compliments at every weddings.

That all makes sense! Sounds like a good number of speeches: enough to where guests can hear from multiple people, yet not too many to where they run on for the whole reception. I think the thank you speech is a great idea!

Very cool! Great variety of people from both the bride's side and groom's side. As a guest I've always loved hearing speeches from both family of the couple and friends of the couple.

That sounds like a great plan! The thank you speech is always appreciated, but if the rest of the speeches aren't of interest, I don't think anyone would be opposed to starting the party early!

Oh my gosh, I'm the same way! I'd much rather approach people individually to thank them. I am 100% awful at public speaking if it's in front of more than like 3 people. That's awesome that your fiance has so much experience with talking in front of people!

4 is a solid number! I think that's fairly ideal for number of speeches. Did you set a specific time limit for each one? Or just ask them to keep it shorter?

I think we gave each of our fathers a 5-minute window, and asked the MOH + best man to keep theirs 2-3 minutes each. All of the speeches were during the first course of dinner because we didn't want people to get bored!

I haven't decided 100% yet. I think I want my mom to give a speech. Either my sister or my BFF, the best man, and probably one of his parents. Us giving a thank you speech is an excellent idea that way if we don't get to talk to every single guest, they will at least know we appreciate them being there.
