HOW MANY DRESS FITTINGS DO YOU REALLY NEED??

Blessed.com, on April 9, 2014 at 7:30 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

I was told 3. That seems pretty odd. My wedding is in July and I have one at the end of April, May and then June. How many dress fittings did you have and what exactly goes on during the fittings?

Depending on your dress, I don't think that's crazy. I only had one fitting, a week before my wedding, but all my dress needed was a bustle.

I'm having two - one to pin everything into place, then one to check that it's all ok. I'm only having mine shortened though which is very straightforward.

I had a "your dress is here come put it on again and play with accessories" appointment. I have 1 fitting, and then a 2nd appointment to make sure everything changed fits right. So all in all it will be 3 times putting the dress on at the shop before the wedding.

I've had two already. One was a major alteration, the second was fixing the fact that it was still a little too big and a few minor tweaks and the third is more a come in and try it on, fingers crossed it's good.

I have four actual "appointments" starting July 8th, but my shop said I can make as many appointments as I please if I lose or gain weight drastically.

I went in for initial alterations, just had another appointment with more pinning and hopefully the next one will be it! She will do as many as needed to ensure a perfect fit!

I'm with Jemma. I had one in March to figure out what I needed (shortened & bustle) and I have another appointment on the 18th to make sure it's alright and hopefully take it home!

I think 2-4 is pretty normal depending on what ur doing to the dress & how well it fits you when it first comes in. Mine was way too big so my first fitting was to pin it all in & hem it. 2nd fitting is next week to make sure all that stuff went well & tweak what may be necessary & do the bustle. If I lose more then I'll have to go in again. The 3rd fitting I was told is really to double check everything, make any tiny adjustments so it's perfect & to teach me or mom or MOH how to bustle & tie the corsette. Then they'll steam it etc & keep it for me to pick up a couple days before the wedding.

I think 3 sounds pretty normal.

I think as many as it takes to get it right. Sometimes little tweakings are necessary.

I had 3, my initial to see what needed to be done, a second one since I had lost 15 lbs and needed in pulled in a size and a final one right before the wedding to make sure it was all perfect.

If you include my last fitting, it'll be 3.

    First one does major alterations

    Second one does minor

Third is my final fitting and any last details that come up.

I'll have had two by the time it's all said and done. My dress fits me perfectly. It just needed a hem, a cleaning and a bustle. I had my first fitting March 1 and I'll have my second on April 26.

I dropped mine off about 2 months before my wedding. 1st fitting we made several changes, second fitting to make sure I liked the changes, tweak anything I didn't like and talk about a bustle. 3rd fitting everything was as I wanted, so I took her home.

I don't think 3 is unreasonable. My seamstress did not charge anything for the actual fitting, just the alterations on the dress. So, if it would have taken 10 fittings, I would have gone to 10 fittings to get it right.

I had length remved and a bustle added. 3 fittings. 1) measure length. 2) she had cut some from bottom and was confirming length before she finished hem. Paid half deposit. 3) will validate everything is correct and learn how to bustle.

Be sure to have all your undergarments and shoes each time.

I did 4 but that's bc my seamstress is a perfectionist and she would find little things to fix.

I am having at least 3 but I have a feeling I will need one more. First was to pin the bodice and hem. Second was to check on the fit of those changes and make additional adjustments to the neckline and pin the bustle. The third will be the check the work completed from the previous fitting. And I have a feeling I will need another one if the appropriate changes were not made to the bodice requested at the second fitting. 3 is about par I think.

I only had one, which I regret. The dress was a bit tight in around the chest on my wedding day, leading to some unfortunate backfat in some of the pics.

So It depends. I was told about 3. On my first fitting they took the measurements to take in the bodice of the dress. On the second fitting they took the measurements to shorten the bottom of the dress so it would be right for my height. On the second fitting the bodice of the dress was still too big so they have to take it in again. I am also getting my cathedral length veil shortened a little bit so it stops right before the crystals on the train of my dress start so they took the measurements for this at my 2nd fitting. The third fitting will be to verify all of the changes are correct and nothing additional needs to be done to the dress. I'm also having them clean/steam the dress once they are finished to get out all of the wrinkles since it has been sitting in a garment bag for months.

I ended up with three - I had to take in the dress a second time, otherwise I would only have needed two.

As long as you don't do anything drastic between your first and second fitting, like change shoes or weight, you should be find with just two.
