how are you choosing who gets the centerpieces?

Goodluckbear, on May 21, 2012 at 11:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

Ok ladies I need ideas! If you are giving away centerpieces at the end of the night. How are you choosing who gets to keep them? I have a great aunt who is obsessed with stealing the ones left behind. And dont really wanna see auntie klepto walking off with all of them!

So scavenger hunt? Number under chair? Birthdays? Give me some ideas please!!

Honestly I haven't thought about that since I didn't think people still did that. FBI went to a wedding the last thing on my mind would be taking a centerpiece.

Taking the centerpieces is kinda a thing with my group. Mostly cause Mum always makes em and they're always gorgeous!

Thats common in my family too. Plus who needs to keep that many centerpieces when its done. My mom gave them out at my sisters wedding, mainly to older female family members. Since they like to collect the most stuff. It also depends on how many centerpieces vs interested people you have. My sister still ended up with about 10 leftover. She had about 30ish tables out.

I'm putting gift bows under one chair at each table. The coordinators will announce near the end of the reception for everyone to look under their chairs for a bow and that person will "win" the centerpiece.

I like Peeka's idea. Simple and efficient.

Hmm, I would do some sort of game because I don't think everyone would want a centerpiece, if you just put something under chairs they may get left behind because people don't want to bring them home.

Either that or if you have enough grandma's/aunts between you to give them to your older family members.

I was thinking something along the lines of Peeka's idea. I really don't think it will be an issue of no one taking it home. If the person that "wins" it doesn't want it, I am sure someone else at the table will take it from them.

I think Peeka has a good idea. If the person that "wins" the centerpiece doesn't want it they can give it to someone else at the table!

We didn't have any games, contests or anything like that. I didn't think people would want them but they sure did! They all "claimed" one and i think it ended up being my mom, grandma, step mom, other grandma, aunts, brother (which was very odd), MOH, MIL, and one other person who took them home.

Ahh I'm using my collection of vintage vases for my centerpieces and I'm so worried that people will take them home. I'm thinking I had better put a little card on the table with a note about the vases.

You could also do something like using those with a birthday closest to either your wedding date or your engagement date (or some other date you wanted to use) at each table wins the centerpiece.

We actually never considered this and are very thankful we didn't use a florist who rented the vases. At the end of the night guests were taking everything was wasn't nailed downSmiley smile

I didn't want anyone taking our centerpieces. We used wooden birdcages that our florist filled with flowers and the birdcages were not cheap. I have plans to sell them now that the wedding is over because I wanted to re-coup some of the money that I spent for them.

I don't know if anyone tried to take them, but I had all of them left at the end of the day. We only had 8 tables.

Same here as Mrs. Clark and Andrene. The guests just took them. But in general I thought the end of the evening was a little hectic because we were trying to say bye to everyone, thank the staff, figure out how to pack, etc., so honestly deciding who takes the centerpieces would have been too much.

Haha sweet, forgot people want the centerpieces... whoever gets ours is getting wheat grass, a bouquet of wildflowers and half a dozen apples... so random lol. Hope they remember to water it!
