help me bring mother's lace gown into wedding day :-)

Ellen, on November 13, 2011 at 8:45 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

My mother has given me her wedding dress and told me to do as I please with it :-) I absolutely want to somehow incorporate it into the wedding! It is a beautiful lace gown, about 44 yrs old, so some discoloration has occurred.

I was thinking of using the lace to wrap my bouquet stems, maybe even seeing if there was a way to make lace rosettes? I'm not the most creative person, but will give anything a shot once, and if it works, twice! LOL

Any other ideas? Would love some of your creativity!

I was thinking the same thing about wrapping the bouquets in it i think that would be stunning and really meaningful. would there be a way to maybe make a runner for a sweetheart table or something like that? perhaps you could find a way to incorporate some of the lace into your hair...like glue some onto a pretty hair flower...or...hmm...maybe you could make hankys out of it to use during the cermony and give one to your mom and gma as well. or could you make pocket squares out of it for the groomsman? just some thoughts.

You could use some of the lace to create your graters (one to keep and one to toss). Maybe as dollies on the cake table. Maybe as an undercoat for your gown. Maybe in your veil or haircomb. Maybe as your ring bearer's pillow.

You can always incorporate some of the lace into your own gown. (Even if others can not see it.)

You could also use some of the lace in your mother's corsage behind the flowers...

What style is it? If it has long sleeves or something you could make a bolero out of it, or even a wrap since it might be chilly in April?

What does your veil look like? could you have the lace incorporated into the edges of your veil? or even have a lace veil? What does your dress look like?

As an officiant, not just weddings, but baby christenings, your mom's lace would serve so beautiful as a blanket for your first grandchild.

We used my mom's dress to cover the card box and to create a ring pillow.
