Hey all! I am so new to this, I just got my engagement ring after work yesterday and I took it off to wash my hands. My mom was like, "Uhh, you should never take that off." I thought water can damage it. I just feel weird to wear it when I sleep or take a shower with it. Does anyone had this...

I am so not used to wearing a ring at my left hand lol, because it is size 5 and I have a shorter left arm with 4 fingers that I never worn watch or ring on left hand.

I take mine off when I go to bed and put it back on after I shower. I am a rough sleeper so I don't want to lose it in my sleep. Also, if I go to the gym I usually take it off, especially if I am meeting with the trainer. I don't want to get it damaged if I am working with weights.

I worked at a jewelry store for 3 years and I've seen what everyday stuff can do to rings, so I take it off every night and drop it in the cleaner..take it off when I shower..take it off to wash dishes or swim etc.

I only take it off to wash my hands, to put lotion on, to shower, to clean, and to lift weight. Otherwise it's there! I was cautious about wearing it at the beach last weekend, but I didn't want to leave it on the boat and forget to put it back on, take off and it fall into one of the deep compartments of God-knows-where on the boat lol.

I forgot to mention that FH got me what we call my 'stunt' ring which is a band that I can wear when I'm exercising or doing something that could damage my engagement ring.

The only times I take mine off is when I put on lotion, color my hair, paint or go to pole fitness class. Other than that, my rings are always on my finger.

I leave mine on all the time, only taking it off if I have to clean it or if I'm putting on super thick lotion. Or gardening because I don't want to damage the diamonds. But I sleep, shower, cook, etc. with it on. I'm always afraid to take it off lol cause I'm such an airhead I'd forget it.

p.s. Yay Megan you got your ring!!

We got the idea from friends of ours that 'flip' houses. They do a lot of manual labor so they each got bands that they didn't mind trashing.

I only take mine off to put lotion on. I wear to bed, to shower in and everything. I can't stand the feeling of not having it on.

Before I got the ring, I planned on NEVER taking it off because my mom lost her wedding ring's twice that way. But my ring is a bit on the looser side and I'm afraid it will fall off in the shower so I take it off. I also take if off if I'm doing something really messy like cooking with batter or dough. I sleep in my ring and when I put on lotion I usually just am careful to go around my ring.

    Hey Megan!

My Mom is paralyzed in one arm, her right. So she does everything with her left hand. She always takes hers off because she "over uses" her right and doesn't want to bang it up or get stuck on something. But in your sitiuation you are probably ok since you (I'm assuming) use your hand primarily.

As for me, I never take mine off. I have problems remembering to take my atm card out of the machine so, I don't want to risk losing my ring. Get it insured!

Also, once your married you can just wear your band if you are going to be doing dirty.

Only time this baby comes off is if im working with some super messy food or something like household sealers...other than that it stays on through the shower hand washing lotion the whole nine yards. Taking a shower actually cleans it not damages it. It looks sooo shiny when I get out LOL than I put lotion on and its dirty again but its ok cus I wash my hands and its clean again. Water will not hurt it at all..all those cleaners they use on them are water based..its water not acid Smiley smile

I jsut recently started wearing it at night, but at first, my finger would swell up! It hurt! i also sometimes take it off at work cause my job sometimes involves moving large items around and I would hate to crush it. I also take it off when I go hiking, biking, workout, etc. My fingers swell up!

You should NEVER wear it to bed. Since diamonds are minerals and not an actual stone, your bed sheets can can in a sense make microscopic cuts on your diamonds as well as dull your prongs.

I take it off each night and some times at work (i'm a hair stylist) I hate wearing it when washing hair all the time/take it off before I put gel or other products in clients hair.
