Have you ever taken off your engagement ring??

Hey all! I am so new to this, I just got my engagement ring after work yesterday and I took it off to wash my hands. My mom was like, "Uhh, you should never take that off." I thought water can damage it. I just feel weird to wear it when I sleep or take a shower with it. Does anyone had this...

I am so not used to wearing a ring at my left hand lol, because it is size 5 and I have a shorter left arm with 4 fingers that I never worn watch or ring on left hand.

@Megan- Sometimes it's a little to big sometimes it's perfect...heck sometimes it's to small. I had it sized that way because I HATE when my jewelry is to tight. It can't get past my knucle and it barely moves unless I pull on it so I don't worry to much.

The only time I take mine off is when I'm doing my hair because my bands were put together. So there is a thin space between them in certain parts that my hair gets stuck in and it tends to hurt. I'm thinking about taking it off when I sleep because right now it is so hot that my hands swell up and my ring starts to hurt my finger.

I wear mine all the time except to mix meat loaf or kneed bread. I use to take it off at work until I almost lost it. Now I just wear gloves.

Just a warning - my sister took hers off (ring and band) at work one day and put them in her drawer. Well, her day was so packed that she forgot about it when she left. Someone stole them overnight and of course she was devastated.

So don't think anything is safe at work! IF you think you'll need to take if off at work, just leave it at home.

White gold shouldn't be affected by water. I have a white gold one and nothing really bothers it. I like a lot of others take it off to sleep and shower. My fingers swell. I'm in the process of losing weight and so at times it's huge and other times because of swelling it barely fits. I think it's just personal preference. It's taken me a while to get use to having a ring on that hand.

I'm exactly like SherriM. I take all my jewelry off as soon as I get home (except for my heart pendant that stays on all the time). I don't like to sleep with jewelry on at all, and I've found when I'm doing things around the house (cleaning, cooking, getting ready for work, etc), I was always bumping it or hitting it against stuff. I have a small heart-shaped glass box that I keep by my bed, and the ring goes in there when I get home.

Thanks Nov! I am so not used to it. I now understand why mom got depressed to ditch the wedding ring when dad divorced her. She said a ring was a part of her and she felt very naked and depressed without it. It is finally hitting me the reality that I am actually getting married lol.

I take mine off at night when I go to bed--I put it in it's ring box on the bathroom counter so that when I wake up, I put it back on. I also take it off when I shower because after I get out of the shower I put on lotion and I don't want lotion in my ring; usually I don't put my ring on until I'm done in the bathroom after showered and getting ready because of hair and makeup and stuff as well--I also have read things where jewelers have said that lotion and dirt and soap and all that stuff gets stuck in between the diamonds and little parts of the ring and that just grosses me out. lol. I also take it off when I am cleaning house because of all the chemicals.

I take mine off as soon as I get home so I don't damage it (since September I've chipped the diamond in it!) and I don't put it back on until I'm about to walk out the door in the morning. I tried sleeping with it on one night and I took it off in the middle of the night and when I woke up the next morning freaked out because it wasn't on my finger. I tore the bed apart only to find it in my pillow case, who knows how it got there. Smiley atonished
