Hey all! I am so new to this, I just got my engagement ring after work yesterday and I took it off to wash my hands. My mom was like, "Uhh, you should never take that off." I thought water can damage it. I just feel weird to wear it when I sleep or take a shower with it. Does anyone had this...

I am so not used to wearing a ring at my left hand lol, because it is size 5 and I have a shorter left arm with 4 fingers that I never worn watch or ring on left hand.

I take it off for bed, shower doing mine and my daughter hair, and thats about it. However FH doesnt care if I wear it his bnd will be on a chain around his neck most days. He works on and paints motorcycles and doesnt like wearing while hes working. I dont wear it to bed because my finger swell it night and it hurts like hell in the morning and takes hours for me to get it off.

I wear my all the time...shower, bed, cooking...etc. I am soo clumsy i know I will lose it. This is the only piece of jewelry I have managed to hold onto. I do try to take it off when in washing clothes or doing dishes. I have insurance on my ring and every six months I take it in for inspection and they fix anything thats wrong with it. It is white gold and after my last inspection they replated the gold and put on new prongs! I am hard on jewelry but its good to know they can make it look brand new!

I guess I'm in the minority because I only wear mine when I leave the house (or I suppose when we have company). I work from home/am a homemaker so it's not like I'm going to an office without my ring or anything and it just feels weird to me to have jewelry on in the house. I've always had the habit that the first thing I do when I get home is take my jewelry off. Sometimes I forget and leave it on while we watch TV after getting home or something but that's about it. I could never sleep in it because my fingers swell when I sleep and it would be really uncomfortable when I woke up with it stuck on my hand. I also love to cook/bake and am a cleaning freak so I wouldn't want to have it on when doing any of that or I would be afraid of hurting it. Cleaning products can be really bad for the finish (even the natural stuff I use). Plus honestly, I would just feel like I was banging it around on stuff all the time! I feel much better leaving it in it's box except when I get dressed to go out. It's just what works for me.

I think everyone should just do what works best for them but I wouldn't personally want to do the "never take it off" thing because then I would go crazy about it and not even want to take it off when it might get hurt like doing heavy work or lost like swimming. Plus when women get pregnant a huge percent end up having to take their rings off then and if I'd made it a rule I would end up feeling bad about that (just me).

Overall I think you just have to find what works for you!
