Have you ever taken off your engagement ring??

Sweetbella, on May 27, 2010 at 10:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 64

Hey all! I am so new to this, I just got my engagement ring after work yesterday and I took it off to wash my hands. My mom was like, "Uhh, you should never take that off." I thought water can damage it. I just feel weird to wear it when I sleep or take a shower with it. Does anyone had this experience? I am so not used to wearing a ring at my left hand lol, because it is size 5 and I have a shorter left arm with 4 fingers that I never worn watch or ring on left hand.

Water doesn't damage it. Soaps and stuff can get it in it. Certain chemicals can mess it up. Mine's insured, so I don't worry about something happening to it. You're supposed to take it off when you sleep and shower. I don't, though. If I take mine off I forget to put it on. FH doesn't care if I wear it or not. He won't be wearing his wedding band after the PC ceremony because he HATES all jewelry. He's lucky if he remembers his watch in the mornings.

Congrats Megan! I wear mine all the time, sleeping, shower, etc... I do take if off when I put on lotion or hair gel because it's so sticky. I wasn't used to wearing a ring either, but now it's part of me! And water won't damage it if it's gold or platinum

I take mine off when i go to bed and put it back on after i get a shower and do my hair. I don't want to get soap, shampoo, conditioner, or hair gel in my ring.

I take mine off when I shower and do cleaning/gardening, and when I put lotion on, other than that, this sucker is on!

LOL Jenn you always make me laugh. My co worker just now was looking at me and wondering why lol. You and him are so freaking cute!

Thanks Folly :-) My ring is white gold, can it still be damaged by water? LOL interesting about lotion.

I was the same way when I first got my ring. I slept in it the first night but it was a half size too small and I woke up to my finger swollen like a porkie pig lol! After that I would take it off when I went to bed. But now that I've kinda gotten used to it, I sleep in it most nights now. But it's taken me about 3 months to get to that point. I don't wear it in the shower and I usually take it off if I'm cleaning (and stuff).

The only time I take mine off is to shower because even though it fits perfectly otherwise as soon as it hits water it falls off. But I also have insurance on mine so I don't worry to much about something happening to it...Short of losing it that is...(knock on wood)!

I sleep in mine, but I take it off when I shower, wash my hands, put lotion on, etc. I like it to stay clean so it would bug me if I got soap or lotion in it Smiley smile I think its up to you. I will probably leave it on all the time eventually, but for right now while its brand new I try to take really good care of it Smiley smile I keep a ring box in the bathroom so I put it in that while I shower so it doesn't fall into the sink or anything! lol And eventually it becomes a habit to put it back on Smiley smile

I was particular about taking it off the first month I had it... now I don't care if lotion rubs on it or whatnot. I only take it off when I do gardening or if I'm doing volunteer work in a sketchy area. I think you will get used to it. Smiley smile

I only take mine off to put on lotion and when I'm shampooing my hair. I don't want it snagging my hair.

Mine is only on when I am not in my house. I have always gotten home and taken all of my jewelry off. FH understands it isn't a reflection of how much I love him if I wear it or not, so it comes off when all of my other jewelry does. My wedding band I will more than likely wear all of the time though.

I wear mine except when I'm lifting weights, or doing something really messy like kneading dough or planting flowers. When I put lotion on I usually go around it or sometimes take it off. I always wear it to bed...but I'm lucky my fingers don't swell. Before having my engagement ring I never wore rings, but now I just feel naked without it. I don't think showers do anything damaging to the ring--and mine always looks sparkly clean when I get out of the shower. I think it's just a personal preference. My FSIL rarely wears hers. She can't wear any jewelry to work and can only really wear it on the weekends when she remembers.

I wear mine all the time. When I first got it I would take it off to wash my hands and shower and stuf for the same reasons you do but then I realized that it didnt really matter as long as i wasnt dealing with chemicals. So now I wear it all the time. I dont think it matters if you take it off on occasion but my mom said the same thing when I use to take it off I think its just the difference in gerations or something!
