Has anyone NOT had bridal portraits taken?

Hi, still relatively new to WW and this will be my second post. So everyone in my family keeps talking about my bridal portraits and blah blah blah, BUT I'm personally not keen on having them done. I just don't see the need for the added expense especially since my fiancé and I are paying close to 85% of this wedding ourselves.

Has anyone NOT had them and regretted it or has anyone had them and then regretted it? I know it's more of a 'personal choice' question, but I figure since we're going to have an amazing wedding photographer, he will get some excellent shots and I could possibly use one of those instead.

I'm the first person in my family to get married and have an actual wedding (my sister and BIL went to the courthouse and it was very lovely) in close to 18 years so my entire family is in over-drive with planning lol. My grandma is darn near obsessed and is just so tickled and can't stop talking about 'your bridal portraits'.

Never heard of them before, and definitely don't know anyone who's done them. Seems like a waste of money...there will be plenty of photos the day of the wedding, and I'm not a huge fan of staged photos, anyway.

Engagement photos, bridals AND wedding photos seems a bit excessive. Honestly, I wasn't even too keen on engagement photos (which also weren't a common thing until less than 10 years ago) except that they were included in our photography package. Bridals are really common in the Mormon community but outside of that I haven't seen many people do them.

I have an engagement session/bridal portrait session included with my wedding photography package. FH and I asked if we could do a post wedding session and get some pictures with us and the dogs since I do not want bridal portraits and we did an engagement shoot when we went to Canada for my birthday.

Obviously they are not necessary. I am, however, extremely glad that I did them. Bridal Portraits are really a no brainer in my circle so I really didn't even consider not doing them. They were included with the package that I bought from my photographer and I did my hair/makeup trial that day. It really helped me to know exactly how I wanted my hair and makeup to look on my wedding day. I made a few very small changes once I saw the entire picture and was happy that I did. I did not have a huge canvas portrait of me displayed at the reception, but I did put a small 5X7 on the gift table which I received a lot of compliments on.

I'm southern and I'm not having them done. We are doing engagement and wedding picks.

Formal bridal portraits....haven't heard those being done (at least in California) since the 1980s.

When it comes to weddings, everything is your choice. You choose what is important to you, and what is not important.

There are only three things of importance: a willing couple with a marriage license, and the person who marries them. EVERYTHING else is optional!

    Best wishes!

It's an old south thing, not just southern. So people whose parents grew up in the south. A lot of my friends who grew up in another part of the country aren't familiar with them. Most people I know who have had them had one printed large and displayed at their reception. They seem to be falling out of fashion though. I opted not to have them done. I didn't see a need to spend the money on them, and I'm confident my photographer will get plenty of photos on the big day.

I'm not having them done! I find them useless to be honest. I'll get enough pics on the wedding day.

It is a southern thing, I think. A lot of portraits I've seen were done ahead of time and were displayed at the reception. I'm not doing one.

We are not having bridal portraits done, but we are doing a "bridal" photoshoot in the day or two following the wedding. They call it a "bridal" shoot even though it includes DF. We're getting married at Disney World, and the photo shoot will be inside two of their parks pre-opening in our wedding attire, and was something we absolutely wanted after seeing some of the photos they take!

I had them and absolutely love them. I don't regret it at all. I totally understand that it's weird to some people. It's just a tradition where I'm from. It was nice to be able to see my hair and makeup and everything come together in case I decided I want to change something for the wedding. But to each their own! Smiley smile

I had never even heard of doing bridal portraits before this site. I'm not doing them as I don't think it would be worth it. I'm hopeful that my photographer will get some nice ones of just me but I don't feel I need an entire shoot for it. I would be really nervous about getting dress dirty or something happening to dress before wedding day

I had never heard of them before I came on WW. I don't really see the point- why would I need portraits of me in my wedding gown to display at the wedding when I will BE there in my wedding gown? The whole thing seems pretty silly to me, but maybe it's a cultural thing that I just don't get...
