Grandma wants to wear ivory...

Mrs.sloth, on October 14, 2016 at 4:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 110

I was talking yo my sweet sweet grandma on the phone today and she told she bought an ivory pant suit for the wedding and wanted to know if it's okay. She said it has some burgundy accents but it's mostly ivory. Now, I don't think she's trying to upstage me, and I'm not worried about people mistaking her for the bride. I was just kind of shocked that she even bought and ivory wedding outfit to begin with, especially for a November wedding. When she asked me if that was okay, I was a little caught off guard. I told her I wasn't sure and wondered how it might look next to my ivory dress in photos. She did go shopping with me so she knows my dress. On one hand, she's old do she kiiiiind of gets a pass. On the other hand, she asked and I'm not sure how I feel about. Any advice or opinions on what you would do or how to handle it? Thanks.

Gift her a lovely burgundy shawl to wear with it during the wedding.

If my grandma said "Honey, I bought a white dress to wear to your wedding is that okay?" I'd be like hell yes grandma please wear your white dress and we can get awesome photos together and look amazing. She's your grandma. Let her wear what she wants. It's an ivory pantsuit. I'm sure they will know who the bride is.

If you read my post I made it clear that I'm not worried about her upstaging. That's why I asked for opinions in a polite manner. I hadn't decided one way or another. Just curious what other people would do. So thank you to those of you giving kind, polite answers. I'm leaning towards letting her wear it. Getting her a burgundy shawl is a lovely idea.

My grandmothers are dead. I wish they could attend my wedding, in whatever they wanted to wear. #perspective

I agree. More than anything I would have loved to have my grandmother see me walking down the aisle.. It's sweet that she asked for your permission and I would careless what she wore. Smiley smile

I agree with the shawl idea. It'll make her happy and accentuate the burgundy in her suit, which will look great in pictures!

I was planning on letting my bridesmaids wear white. It's ok for Grandma. If mine were alive I wouldn't hesitate. It was very sweet of her to ask though! Lol

If my grandma shows up naked as the day she was born I'd still sit her in the front row.

I'd let it go. It sounds like your concern is more so how it'll look in pictures, but I'm assuming there will only be so many with grandma in them and she appears to be happy with her pant suit choice so yeah. I'd call her back and say go for it.

My second cousin wore a white pant suit to my wedding. She looked amazing, and no one thought she was me.
