Fondant, buttercream, or naked?

Kelly, on October 16, 2018 at 4:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 82

How are you icing your wedding cake? Will you use fondant, buttercream icing or go no icing and have a naked cake? 🍰

Was your decision purely decorative or do you care more about the taste?

Buttercream for us! Our florist is decorating our cake for us, and we love the sleek look of white cake with flowers, but we actually want people to, you know, eat it, so fondant was a NO THANK YOU lol

We are doing buttercream as well. Fondant looks pretty, but it's a big nope from us as well:-)

Buttercream for us! I am not a fan of fondant, looks pretty but it has no flavor.

BUTTERCREAM! Not only does it taste the best, but it looks good, too. I personally don't love the naked cake trend, but I do think fondant looks cool (especially in the groom's cake when the cake looks like something else). But for a wedding cake, you can't go wrong with buttercream!

We are planning for a buttercream. Most fondants are kind of gross to eat, and taste a lot like weird powdered sugar. A naked cake is fine, just a little more limiting when it comes to cake decorations.

None of the above! We're doing a traditional Dominican cake, so we're going to have suspiro which is a meringue. Looks just like buttercream, but the perfect topping for Dominican cakes

I have always been a die hard buttercream fan. I don't like the way fondant looks or tastes and the naked cake trend felt like a personal insult since I am a (completely armature) cake decorator from a long line of very good and very professional cake decorators.

That said, our grooms cake is most likely going to be fondant and although I will never go this far, I keep coming back to the naked cakes because they would look so good with our vibe lol oh well rosettes it is!

Buttercream! Fondant looks nice (albeit almost a little TOO perfect), but is nearly inedible. And everyone knows the best part of the cake is the icing! 😉

LOL, I'm sorry, I know that wasn't an option. Smiley heart

This is my inspiration! It's more of a semi naked. I wanted some frosting but not a ton!

We did a semi naked cake, but our guests didn’t eat it because we had a cupcake truck for dessert. But DH and I had some and it was to die for. But with that said, if you love icing you can’t go wrong with buttercream, I’m just not a huge icing fan.
