Does it matter if your ring is real or fake?

My fiance got my ring at Walmart (not gonna lie) It's CZ - It's not real. but I still love it just as much as if it was a real ring. My fiance got my ring at Walmart (not gonna lie) It's CZ - It's not real. but I still love it just as much as if it was a real ring. It cost us 60 dollars and he said "He would buy me a real engagement ring eventually" but I told him Id still wear this one even if he bought me another because it's the one he proposed with. A girl at school (when I was still in school) Told me It "wasn't a real engagement ring" and I was really offended by this. She was like "My engagement ring cost 4000 dollars" and I was like "Well Brian doesn't have 4000 dollars to blow on an engagement ring" I care more about him having good credit when we get married than him breaking his bank over a ring.

So that leads to my final question - do you think it matters if your ring is real or not? Personally I dont care (If I got a real ring I'd want it to look the exact same as this one.. and I don't even know how to go about doing that.)

Feel free to post pictures of your rings too!

It's soo true... as long as you both love your ring that's all the matters. When my FH and I were shopping for rings he was always critical of the diamond statistics... and I was always telling him it would be more then we could afford. But then we walked into the last store and absolutely fell in love with the ring, and he never asked about the diamond!

Mine's a real diamond but it isn't very big (I picked it out - it's what I wanted) and people actually told me that they thought I should have held out for more. Um, I want to marry him regardless, not the ring he's giving me!

It doesnt matter. My ring isn't a diamond, its aquamarine and I love it so much. Just don't tell people it isn't real, that way you wont get bothered with questions or comments!

And to add... my mom had a cz engagement ring for almost 25 years and no one ever knew!

Doesn't matter whether it's real or fake, or heck even imaginary. As long as you love each other that's all the that matters. I went for a blue topaz. I was able to get a 4 carat topaz ring for less than a 4 carat diamond. It's got 1/10th carat diamonds surrounding it and the band is 14k white gold.

My ring has diamonds but they are tiny dimond chips. I dont think its the cost of the ring that makes it important its the meaning behind it. If he really loves you than that ring is a real as a that $4000 ring.

I agree with jlacy--there's no such thing as a "fake" e-ring. My FH picked out a lab-created ruby ring for me (I don't like diamonds either!), and was super worried that it wasn't expensive enough because it was lab-created, but personally, I LIKE that my ring was "made with science" and I LOVE the design. (I also like that I don't have to worry about having thousands of dollars on my hand all the time, frankly.)

It really irritates me when people ask about it and when I mention it's a lab ruby, they immediately respond, "Oh, it LOOKS like a REAL one!" That's just bad science--it IS real; it's just not a naturally occurring stone. The chemical and crystal structure is the same. :p

The amount of money or carets doesn't make anything an "engagement" ring, no matter how expensive it is - the fact that he proposed and he loves you and he wants to marry you makes it an "Engagement" ring!! I think you are being an amazing fiance by understanding the financial sitution and not demanding a fancy ring, those are the things that make a relationship so great, not $4,000!!!

Ummm good credit is MUCH better than a flashy engagement ring you guys can't afford. I didn't get a 2 months salary ring. I got what FH could pay in cash, since I really like living in our house, driving a car, taking vacations, etc. I'm not getting the wedding band I originally wanted because the thousands for that went to my college this semester for what my loans didn't cover. Trust me, I see too many of my friends go into debt over wedding stuff and then they're unhappy they can't go anywhere/do anything fun because they have so many credit card bills to pay. You're doing the right thing, chica! Smiley smile

I just wanted to thank each and every one of you. I was previously engaged and the ring I got was so ugly and the family of my fiance was very rude and intrusive. Everyone asked if it was real (which it was) but it made me feel so self consious of having a ring that wasn't real. SO now FH and I have been looking for a real diamond ring that we can afford, and it's been quite the struggle. Reading all of your posts and thinking about mine and other peoples reactions to newly engaged women (not asking about the diamond) I believe I won't be asked too much. I also just talked to FH about it he sounded relieved Smiley winking I think you all just broadened my search. THANK YOU!

I had a CZ ring at the start of the engagement. He decided to propose kind of spontaneiously (he knew he would be marrying me but he didn't know exactly when to pop the question.) so he hadn't really saved much up. I got my first ring at Walmart too. He gave me my current one as a late Christmas Present (he got his end of the year bonus on new years ever so I got it then). I loved both of my rings and I would kick anyones but that told me that it has to be a diamond.

I think that its a matter of preference. There are brides on here who would care and those who wouldn't. You are pleased with the ring and its pretty so your friend in school can well ya know....go somewhere.

I have a CZ ring because frankly..I don't want to have to hold myself accountable for a couple of grand on my finger! Haha..with two kids (his 5 yr old boy and our 10 month old daughter) I didn't want to risk it..and I got a ring that I love that only cost us a little bit. It is gorgeous!! I don't care that it isn't a real diamond..not a lot of people can tell either. I love it for what it stands for and for the man who put it on my finger :-)

    Sorry only pic I have

It doesn't matter, as long as you love other another it's all good. And the girl that said she has a "$4,000" ring is full of her self and only said that to you to make her self feel better. I have a nice size diamond, been engaged for 8 1/2 months and don't know and don't want to know how much my ring cost.
