Does it matter if your ring is real or fake?

Krystal, on April 27, 2010 at 11:53 AM Posted in Planning 1 78

My fiance got my ring at Walmart (not gonna lie) It's CZ - It's not real. but I still love it just as much as if it was a real ring. It cost us 60 dollars and he said "He would buy me a real engagement ring eventually" but I told him Id still wear this one even if he bought me another because it's the one he proposed with. A girl at school (when I was still in school) Told me It "wasn't a real engagement ring" and I was really offended by this. She was like "My engagement ring cost 4000 dollars" and I was like "Well Brian doesn't have 4000 dollars to blow on an engagement ring" I care more about him having good credit when we get married than him breaking his bank over a ring.

So that leads to my final question - do you think it matters if your ring is real or not? Personally I dont care (If I got a real ring I'd want it to look the exact same as this one.. and I don't even know how to go about doing that.)

Feel free to post pictures of your rings too!

That's exactly how I feel too - I was just wondering other people's thoughts on the subject.

The only thing that matter is that your LOVE is real. Period.

Your marrying your husband not your ring. And since you love both, I see no problem!

Not at all... some people propose with no ring. does that mean the proposal isnt 'real' NOPE! if you love your ring thats all that matters... and no one needs to know it its real or not besides you and FH.

infact, alot of girls dont even want diamond rings, but chose other stones instead.

It came from the heart and resembles a promise made to you...cant put a price on that!!! my opinion is that it doesnt matter where it came from or how much the store sold it to him...now that its on your finger, its PRICELESS!! hope this helps

Not at all! A ring is a symbol of love, not of how much money you can spend. And I think it's beautiful--I'd never know the difference! And the important thing is that YOU love it. Smiley smile

It only matters if it matters to you. my ring is very tiny. the diamond is probably about 1/10 of a carat, and alot of girls would probably say its not a 'real' engagement ring because its not big enough. well this is what i tell them. yeah he would have gotten me a bigger one, but he was in guatemala at the time with very little money and just couldnt wait any longer to ask me to marry him!

My first engagement ring was also CZ. I picked it out. I was completely happy with a "starter" ring since we are both college students. I would still have it but it started tarnishing very badly (I took it off for everything) when they said it would, so I returned it. Then I got a 10K white gold ring off of amazon. It is cheaper than some rings with the same ctw (mine is 1 ctw) because my ring has a middle amethyst instead of 3 diamonds.

But anyway, I'm a firm belieer that there is no such thing as a "fake" engagment ring. Fake signifies it isn't real and just because something isn't gold doesnt' mean it isn't real. I would still have my CZ ring if it hadn't tarnished, so as long as you are happy, that's all that matters.

^That's what I'm afraid of too..I take it off for everything and the inside of it is starting to tarnish so I'm hoping it doesn't reach the outside.

Try talking to walmart. They might be able to do something with the finish. I was just so frustrated with my first ring (only had it a month and a half) that I just said to hell with it and got white gold.

It doesn't matter. I told my FH that I didnt need a ring. I just wanted to marry him. It was important for him to give me a ring.

Painting the inside of the ring with clear nail polish will prevent it from tarnishing and prevent your skin from having a reaction.

My ring is a CZ. It's a Diamonique from QVC. I told my FH that I didn't want a diamond right now, I've always wanted a Diamonique engagement ring. Maybe 5 years down the road we will replace it with a real diamond, but right now i'm very very happy with the ring on my finger.

All that matters is what you think! My first ring wasn't real either. It was beautiful and no one knew the difference. As long as you love it you shouldn't care what anyone else thinks about it. There's nothing that's going to really prevent your ring from turning. You can paint it with nail polish, spray it with clear acrylic, etc. It is going to rub off eventually unfortunately. :o( You can contact a local jeweler and have them reset your stone in a white gold setting once it starts turning. It doesn't cost a lot to do that.

It doesn't matter to me at all! I would have said yes if he just offered me a plain band with no stone at all. It's the man who'll be keeping me warm at night, not some hunk of metal. Your man loves you enough to marry you - that's what counts. And I might have slapped the taste out of that girl's mouth. Wonder where her relationship will be in 10 years?

I don't think it matters. If he proposed to you and is planning the wedding, the obviously he loves you and wants to marry you. That should matter more then getting a "shut-up" ring and no set wedding date.
