Do you feel guilty spending all this money?

Alex, on April 5, 2018 at 1:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 84

I'm paying the deposit on my dress today (yay, finally!!) and I am so, so excited but there's this part of me that almost feels guilty for just dropping so much money. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret spending the money to have the wedding we want but sometimes I think about everything and it gets almost a little overwhelming. Is this a normal feeling? Am I being dramatic and just need to quit worrying? Thank you!!

Yes. 100%. I know it will be an awesome wkend I have planned and im only doing ghis once but I could do a lot more philanthroicly and feel better about it too. Im not doing a lot of excess stuff intentionally--minimal flowers, asking for no gifts, 1 bridesmaid and groomsmen, etc to cut down on the excess as well.

I don't feel guilty so much as wishful for a time machine to start over knowing what I know know lol. I don't regret what we're doing and love that we're having a bigger wedding but now that the shiny newness of planning a wedding has worn off, I have my realistic goggles on and it would've been nicer to have those from the beginning Smiley xd

Exactly! I just wish things weren't so expensive but I get why some things are.

Don't regret it, nor do I feel guilty about what we spent on our wedding.

I'm also trying to cut down on the excess stuff but everything is still going to add up and it just makes me think of all the other things I could spend this on. But then I remind myself that we can always make more money, it's not like after this isn't going to be money around ever again but it's just crazy putting chunks of money down on things.

I'm with you 100%. I look back and go "oh why did I buy that?" or "why didn't I buy this when I had the chance instead of waiting?"

I just wish I could redo a few things. I wish I would have spent less on certain things that I know I could find for less elsewhere. I think when I get caught up in my fairy tale, Pinterest wedding, I forget how expensive my taste is lol

I think that's how I'll feel once it's all over. I don't regret the things I'm spending money on, they're all things I really wanted and things that'll help the wedding.

I think it's pretty normal, seeing as most of us don't go blowing this kinda money for any other day. It's the one day that you want to get right and remember for a life-time! I feel guilty about it sometimes, but then I remember that it's a celebration of marriage and we should be able to spoil ourselves and our guests. Just have fun with it and know you deserve it Smiley heart

I've been watching a lot of Say Yes To the Dress and one of the dads on there said "She's got champagne taste on a beer budget" hahaha and although we're not going too crazy this is how I feel. It's hard not to get caught up in the excited whirlwind of all these beautiful wedding ideas and just buy things immediately!

I do. Realistically it’s just one day but I’m glad I’m having a real wedding this time. My first wedding was so cheap and thrown together, which was fine, but I also decorated myself and did so much the day of, I’m glad to be relaxing this time, even if it does cost more. But I’m also frugal I didn’t want to spend more than $500 on my dress. I won’t spend more than $400 on flowers fake or real.

Yes! I absolutely know the feeling! Everytime I buy decor I’m like, I won’t even use this! It’s just for one day. I wanted lanterns but they were 30$ each and wth would I do with 15 lanterns after that day? I know I know... resell them! But the point is I feel guilty too- the initial purchase and knowing even if I resold I wouldn’t get the money back. We just bought a house last year and I think of all the things we could’ve done if we weren’t simultaneously planning the wedding. I look forward to everything being done so I can stop watching my money go out the window on a one day expense. I feel ya!

This is me, paying for literally every single part of my wedding.

    It's a very common feeling, I think.

I feel this! We are cramped in our apartment with a crazy commute to work and trying to find somewhere else to live that isn't stupid expensive for what you're getting (around here it's hard) and my mom keeps telling me they would have given us the money they are so generously using to pay for our wedding for a down payment on a nice house and it makes me wonder if we made the right choice. But I remind myself I will have one wedding day and I feel better. Around here everyone has a big Sweet 16 party, their parents buy them brand new cars when they get their licenses, etc. I never had any of that. This is my one big day and I am excited for it

I do not feel guilty. This is my 2nd marriage. My first marriage was performed in my Pastor's office and I had on khaki's. We always wanted to do a renewal of the vow ceremony, but things always came up. Then we divorced. My 2nd marriage will be a comprise a small wedding within our budget. I think as long as you create a budget and stick with it you will be fine.
