Do you feel guilty spending all this money?

I'm paying the deposit on my dress today (yay, finally!!) and I am so, so excited but there's this part of me that almost feels guilty for just dropping so much money. Don't get me wrong, I don't regret spending the money to have the wedding we want but sometimes I think about everything and it gets...

Don't get me wrong, I don't regret spending the money to have the wedding we want but sometimes I think about everything and it gets almost a little overwhelming. Is this a normal feeling? Am I being dramatic and just need to quit worrying? Thank you!!

I do sometimes...especially as I saw the overall budget creeping up. But it will be wonderful day and while I spent a lot, it could have been way way worse!

For sure, I so many times have wished we just eloped and had dinner with our closest family members! My mom is paying for most of the day and I always feel guilty.

Me neither, our wedding will be under $3000, not a lot but still a lot for me. I have zero guilt. Happy to host our family and close friends for an afternoon.

I definitely feel this way! I'm usually not one to make a fuss or spend money for small things. If I had my way we'd have had 30 people in a garden, but I'm trying to breathe through it every time I write a check

With so many people feeling guilty or wanting circumstances to change, you’d think we could start a movement or something...oh wait, that might scare the folks at Pinterest or The Knot or even WW...what would we do then? 😉 Remember, it wasn’t always this way and it doesn’t have to be!

I definitely think it’s normal. My dress was a great deal but some other things seem silly sometimes.
And today I got some bad news at work and could end up making only 30% of what I was expecting right now. We’re still spending within our means for the wedding but the whole thing makes me sick to my stomach.

You’re totally right! I think we all silently rebel against certain things but the convenience of paying a lot for things to be done for you sometimes gets the better of us.

I go back and forth on it a lot. I know we are making the right decision, I've dreamed about this my whole life. We aren't spending beyond our means (major credit card debt, loans, etc.) and it isn't preventing us from doing other things. It's a lot of money, but it's so worth it! Yay for your dress!

I don't regret it mostly because I'm doing a DW that turns into our honeymoon after the wedding. We have also had a long engagement planned so that the money we do spend is saved up and spent over a longer time frame (makes me think I'm spending less and feel better, even if I'm not always, but then I also get to see what sort of deal trends there are ahead of time).

Yes I often feel guilty because I am so cautious with my money. However, we created a budget and we can afford what we are doing. That makes me feel better knowing I won’t be in debt afterwards. But I do always think about how I could be remodeling my home instead 😂

YES! EVERYTIME I look at the things we want for our wedding, its like im seeing what type of elopement or honeymoon me and FH could have if we just went to the court house. Just skip the wedding and go to Itlay on our wedding date.

My budget is 10K (and thats nothing compared to what others spend) and when I think about how it is going toward others eating, and a place I'm only renting for 10 hrs I start to think what FH and I could be eating in Paris or what the hotels look like in Indonesia.

Man now this post is making me think about eloping again....

These are my thoughts. In a year or two I won't even remember how much we spent.

I don't feel guilty it's one day to remember and wish to remember the rest of my married life. Especially to look back at the pictures and movie to remember what I put together. It's all about budgeting imo. But It's normal to feel like that so don't get discourage, just remember in the end it will all be worth it. Smiley heart

Not at all. We already have money for a house. And the older I get (I'm 38), the harder it is to keep in contact with friends, even the close ones because now they have their own families to focus on. Our wedding is when all of these close friends and family from all aspects of our lives will be together in one place, sharing in one of the most special days of our lives. I can't think of a better thing to spend my hard-earned cash on.

In my culture, the family cooks for the reception. They would be hurt if we didn't let them.

The student loans thing! I still need to finish paying off some tuition and I just feel like all this money could and probably should be going there. But I am still making payments and know it will get done. And a wedding is so important!
