Do I Need A Garter?

Tatyana, on August 1, 2012 at 5:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19

We're not planning on doing a garter toss but I just saw a post on people having keepsake garters - what's the reasoning behind the second one? Is there a tradition I'm missing?

I think its just for sentimental purposes, you don't need one if you don't want it. But some people get them personalized and add flowers or rhinestones etc... Up to you, its your wedding :-)

It's really up to you. I had 2 garters...one to toss and one that I've kept with my dress for when I put it into that frame Smiley smile

If you don't want one or want a keepsake garter...than I think you're totally fine without one.

What frame? I don't know about this! So is there a reason to get one even if I'm not throwing it then?

The second is just for a keepsake, a memory. It is not necessary.

I was actually not doing one at all, but then my daughter got engaged, so I bought a garter, sewed on her gold Italian horn and Miraculous Medal and added some blue. I wore it the day of my wedding and then "gave" it to her FH and her during our wedding. She will wear it her wedding day and she has one to toss.

    She's tossing the leopard!

I'm not doing a toss and I will have other keepsakes so I see it as an unnecessary cost. Also, if I don't lose any more weight my garter would go around my FH's waist! lol...ok, maybe not THAT big but it's close!

I did not wear a garter. I don't think you need one. No one will see it unless you do a toss!

We are not doing a garter toss either, but just in seeing this post it occurred to me it might be a nice "wedding-y" addition to my post-wedding attire. For his eyes only ; ) So maybe I'll get one after all and just save it for later in the evening!

We aren't doing a toss or spending money on a garter

We did the garter toss, and the one that was tossed, the guy that caught it go to keep it. The keepsake one is going to go in my shadow box frame when I get it, along with our toasting flutes, cake topper, my headpiece, etc.

It is absolutely up to you. I have seen lately that many brides doesn't like to do toss anymore, but for a wedding entertainment why not?

Well, not tossing but I want to wear one, however it is hard to found just one and not a set.

I think the two garter system came about because brides would buy a garter that they loved and then hated to just have some guy throw it away later. For brides who would like to do a garter toss but are put off by the embarrassing "groom's head up the brides dress," we offer an alternative method and also other tips on the garter toss at www.GarterGlitz.com/garter-toss/.

We aren't doing a toss at all, so I'm not wearing one. I would probably just end up throwing it away in 6 months anyway.

Thanks ladies. I'm not doing a toss because I don't want my FH fishing down there and I find the idea of lifting my dress to mid thigh even more embarrassing - they are definitely not my favorite body part. I guess I'll spend the money on something more essential, like a tux for my pup.

We are not doing a toss and the ONLY reason I actually bought a garter to wear is because I found a NY Yankees garter. FH is a HUGE Yankees fan so I figured he woudl love. Plus it is my "something blue"

I bought a 2 pack of garters. I am keeping the prettier one we are tossing the other. I think some me enjoy being able to remove it without anyone seeing anything but your ankle.
