Some threads really puzzle me

Anyone ever heard of google? I mean, if you're computer literate enough to create a profile on here & start a thread, you surely can navigate google searching. Or go back to the basics, Yellow/White pages.

For the record, I'm not talking about any brides on here, that we actually see wedding progress from. Sometimes we really do need help. I'm talking about the so called newbies, who dont give us any info about themselves, who only post things like what I mentioned above. Either you're spam, or you really should learn to use your resources better. Either way, I dont answer those posts.

This is all.

I also don't understand threads that have questions vendors could absolutely answer but they ban vendors from them. From what I've seen, most of the pros who come here are pretty helpful without being spammy. I'd never even contemplate contacting a poster here with my info, but I get frustrated when I KNOW what to advise, and I know other pros do too. Giving out info is a little way to pay it forward for many of us.

I use to just say google but was told I was being rude so...unless I am feeling chirpy or think the person really is just trying to get a foothold I ignore them.

I agree though that I think sometimes people dont understand the posts go out to all location. I think they assume when they say a county or city people know which one they are talking about. I mean take Athens for example..I can name at least 5 different cities names Athens in the US.

Amy: we get you see no point in avatars. If you look in the top section of the forum, the post it notes, WW Christina even specifies why changing your avatar is important. https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/welcome-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-if-you-are-new/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

The leader is tell newbies to change them, we just delegate the info to make her job easier. If you really see it as something that's non-essential to the forums, perhaps you should take your "I dont care about avatars" complaints to her in an email.

This may be a wedding forum, but what if I as a member doesnt have a wedding question or idea to share today? Am I not supposed to talk then? FB may be a social media, but there are many reasons why people become friends on FB. All the ladies, & even gents, came here for one specific reason: they're getting married. We all came here cuz we share something in common. That's typical of befriending someone ya know, having things in common.

Now not everyone is here to make friends, & if you dont care about making friends, by all means dont. But alot of us do befriend each other, or atleast feel comfortable enough to talk about our lives, NWR. Why? Cuz we found a confidant, we found someone who just might understand us when family, friends, or FB people, may not. So if you really think about it, this site is just as much a social media as FB or any other site.

You may just answer a question & move on. But many of us like to hang around, check up on the OP, see how life is going for them. Esp if something bad is going on & we want to make sure they're ok. I'm sorry we like to share our emotions with each other more than you do, perhaps you should skip past the NWR posts if it really bothers you. My post is completely NWR- not pertaining to my wedding at all. Yet you commented....

And for newbies that dont care to change their avatars, well like I pointed out, it's in the WW newbie post, it's pretty much a rule. So if they choose not to care, they understand that their posts may be left unanswered. Plain & simple.

Amy B, why does it seem like you are trying to pick an argument? BTW you have a picture and I have no clue who you are....yet. After this discussion I will remember you now Smiley smile

I enjoy the community feeling and seeing how everyones wedding progresses from start to finish. If that is a catty sorority then I say bring on the greek!

Honestly I think the best tool on here is the search feature...I use it ALL the time for ideas. I agree with the vendor search on here. I usually say it because I feel kinda obliged to mention this websites features before saying go to this other site lol. All the vendors I have seen on here in my location are too expensive and not in my area.

p.s. I feel like changing the avatar is kinda like answering a captcha before posting Smiley smile If someone wants us to take time to search for a venue for them, surely they can take the time to change a picture right? Seems fair.

Amy B., you are one smart lady. You made your points eloquently and intelligently. I'm not quite sure why people think you're picking a fight, but I want you to know that I, for one, am pickin' up what you're puttin' down. I can back you up on this one (not that you need any help!).

I love that I can always count on WW for some popcorn-worthy postings that have absolutely no relevance on real life, lol. Keeps me busy when FB has nothing going on.

    :-)

It's true... And I just want to make sure all you ladies know that I appreciate and respect every single one of you. Even those of you I may not agree with. I hope that I never say anything that makes anyone feel bad about themselves... I really hate hurting people's feelers.

I usually base my decision to read a post on whether the thread title sounds interesting or not, not whether the person has an avatar. But it's definitely easier to remember and recognize people with an avatar. Since it's pretty much a forum rule to change your avatar, I don't think it's really fair to call people catty for complaining about those who do not change it. On most other forum sites, if they had the same spam problem, you'd get in trouble with moderators if you posted without an avatar.

And as for complaining about other people... I for one came here for help with one specific question and stayed because people were helpful and not mean. Someone asking me to change my avatar or google something myself would not scare me away. (On another wedding forum, I asked for advice and someone told me that I had no business getting married. Compared to that, nothing on WW ever strikes me as rude. lol) If someone's here to ask a question and leave, what do they care if there's a thread

Complaining about poor thread posting? If they want to stick around, this is probably not their first experience with the internet, so I'm sure they can handle a little forum drama. Hell, laughing at drama's one of my favorite things to do on WW and I don't mind admitting it! Smiley smile

Anyway, back on topic, I think the reason some people ban vendors from posts where vendors could really help is because, if they're new to the site, they don't know how helpful the vendors here are and are worried about getting spammed with advertisements. It's an unfortunate, but certainly understandable, misconception that I would guess is quickly corrected once they actually hang out on WW for a bit and see how helpful the vendor members really are.

I am one of the people who will typically pass by posts with generic avatars, unless it seems otherwise legit, simply because I have been on various forums for ages and run one of my own for the haunt I work for. Avatars are required there unless you are one of the major characters and are using that name on there, or using your real name. Occasionally we'll have someone random join and throw a fit when asked to choose an avatar to upload. I don't get the big deal. It's simply the easiest way to tell who is who. As for WW not being a "social media" site...ummm...maybe not like FB, but it certainly is a type of social media, just with a very specific audience. And it just so happens that some of us who are already married like hanging around to offer advice, chat with people we've become friends with and see how the weddings of people we've watched plan turn out. I mean, who doesn't love a good "I'm back and married!" thread, especially if it's someone they were able to help.

Amy N: Lol at you saying the drama is funny. I've seen some threads that end with posts talking about passing the popcorn or jerry springer lol

And on the topic of drama, hehehe...this is nothing. Every once in a while there is some big thing over avatars. If you want some good drama posts to laugh at, check out the Remember When... thread. We've covered some the really good ones there!

@MB I know what you mean! There was the train tracks fiasco, the born-again-virgin disaster...so many great drama posts that make this look like child's play!

I agree - I posted on a discussion earlier where the bride wanted idea for venues but did not say where. I gently reminded her we needed to know what state so we could offer suggestions.
